Angry No Chips!!!!?

I just read this post on the NLOC board. Has anyone else heard about this? Apparently these guys are saying that the PCM in the '01 L won't let the engine start if an aftermarket chip is installed. If this is true I might not bother with the '01. I don't care for the wheels anyway. Any thoughts on this? Sorry if there is already a thread on this topic.

Yeah right... that's what they said when ODBII came out. Ohhhhh you wont be able to modify it... Ohhhhh the check engine light will be on all the time.

Where there is a will, there is a way. A 'software' deactivation can be defeated. A 'hardware' deactivation or removal of port means you'll just have to mod the main chip in the ECU. May even have to socket it... But it'll definitely be possible to chip it.

That's true from what I have heard, but Superchips and Hypertech are both working on power programers for the next computer. You will have to reprogram the computer thru the diagnostic conector, just the like the GM guys do. More time consuming, but far greater tunabilaty.

In a twisted way, this is almost good news. No chips for the '01s would make our '99s and '00s more desirable to the performance afficianado.

The '01s might have a few more HP stock, but we will still rule the strip.

Glad to hear that the performance companies won't let a little thing like design change from Ford get in the way of producing some real ponies. I'll wait for the '01, but there are some things from the '00 that I would like to replace on the '01 if possible. Like the wheels, of course, and the grille. I like the honeycomb design of the current grille a lot better than the new straight plastic strips on the '01. Thanks for the info gang!
