SCT or Diablo...?
SCT or Diablo...?
What is the difference between the two and the pros and cons of each tuner? I am new to the Lightning world... owned a 5.0 for quite some years and never messed with any electrical tuners. Right now my Lightning is lightly modded with just a JLP CAI and a FTVB and full Bassani exhaust w/ high-flow cats on the way shortly. Pretty much what I am asking is what would better suit me and would I need to purchase anything else besides the tuner itself?
Thanks!
Thanks!
if you have a local tuner go with what they use, otherwise they are both very similar, and in that case I would go with a SCT XCAL2 from any of the major tuners with a good mail order tune. I got my XCAL2 from JJ at woodbine motorsports and was very happy with the mail order tune he did and future updates to the tunes he sends are included. JJ is a great guy to deal with and does excellent work.

SCT XCAL2...... I talked to a few tuners and they all recomended that one out of the sct, diablo, and predator. I have it in my 01 and love it. I have the superchips microtuner that came with my 04. Dont know how good that tuner is. Dont hear to much about it in here.
As said you want to choose your Vendor of choice first and then go with what they use, the Predator and XCal2 are both good units though.
In some cases (I'm told ?) SCT has more plug and play choices to make dialing it in easier for the tuner, for example on my Procharged Stang I was running Diablo and even know PSP is a Diablo and SCT Dealer he asked me to switch over to SCT because they had all my add on Mods in their drop down menu's. For instance I went from 24 to 40LB Injectors, 80mm to 90mm Maf, and added the Procharger. All those changes are right there in the drop down menu so all the tuner has to do is point and click and then once on the Dyno make some slight tweaks. To tune a set up like that from scratch is much much harder.
Dont get me wrong Diablo has simular software with simular drop down menu's but sometimes when you add stuff that wasnt avalable or made for that vehicle it's NOT there for simple point and click, as in the case of a 99 Procharged GT. In the L's case all the info is there in both software so I see no advantage for either, amof I ran Diablo for 4 out of 6 years on Blacky (02L) and LOVED THE TUNES. The last couple of years I've been running SCT XCal2's on the L's but more because thats what the tuners recommended...

If you where also doing the MAF upgrade, which is now what most do to keep safe with added boost in the winter, wouldn't Diablo sport be a heck of allot cheaper route with the predator + mafia over the XCal II + 2400? Or can the mafia be used with the Xcal?
