I took my L in on Saturday to get my clunk fixed. Sunset Ford in Garden Grove ,CA. Their "Fix" was to put a regular lockwasher on the bolt. When I asked them if they then checked or corrected the alignment they said "Our alignment machine is down, it needs to be re-calibrated, sorry".
I picked it up late on Saturday. On Sunday I made a U-turn at a signal and heard a loud "Clunk" !!!

Boy are they going to get tired of seeing me at Sunset Ford.......

Did you have the sliding bolt problem? I have a clunk noise from the front, but the bolts dont appear to be moving at all.
They just keep lubing the steering stops and sending me on my way.

ThunderStruck, Were the control arms that you had replaced the ones that are SVT specific and have the little green SVT labels on them? thanks 95rcobra.

I'm really looking to get this "CLUNK" fixed for good. The RIGHT fix. Not two gorillas, not locktite, not lockwashers, not star washers, not tack welding washers on the control arm.
redlite has stated MANY times that SVT told his dealer that new control arms were the fix. Now ThunderStruck's dealer has performed the same fix. At least I see some sort of trend here. Are there any Ford people out there or anyone with access to Ford's parts lookup ? Could someone please lookup the PN's that redlite and now ThunderStruck have on their trucks.

What do these control arms normally go on? A 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton ??? They have to be a standard part for something.
Thanks in advance..........

My truck has 1100 miles and when I was under it last Friday I saw where the bolt had moved. So last night I got under there and put it back to where it was from the factory (plainly visible by the shiny spot on the arm) and then welded the bolt and nut in two places each. I plan on keeping a close check on it. For me this was easier than dealing with Ford.

Yes, I did see your truck. I was there last Thursday having my front bumper aligned. Also, I often walk through their lot.
I am amazed that Sheehy did not have any problem with your the modifications, especially the chip. I am not sure I would trust them if something goes wrong.
What is MIR? I am a little familiar with 75/80 having been there once over 30 years ago. Have to think about going to the strip. I am not much of a fan for drag-racing. However, it would be interesting to see what the Lightning does in the quarter. It would not be interesting watching me blunder my way down the track.

MIR is the Maryland Internatinal Raceway in Budds Creek. It's a little far but it seems they have some really good action on Friday nights.
I have never been to the track but my foot is itching.

Thunderstruck, I did get my lower control arms replaced at Sheehy. Same part numbers as yours and no problems since the fix. I also got a four wheel alignment with the fix. Total repair time was 5.1 hours. JD was my service rep. Byron (spelling?) was the tech rep. He called SVT and got the part numbers after testing the truck out with Chassisears microphone system.
I mentioned in an earlier post (January)that I have a nearby test track that Sheehy is probably aware of that they you and they can test the fix before and after. It is behind the MacDonalds on Rockville Pike (Rt. 355)in the sporting goods store parking lot.
By the way, do you have a red '99 with the Superchips decal on the back window? If so, did Sheehy say anything about that?

Hey redlite,
That is my truck! Did you see it there?
When i went to Sheehy to do the work i spoke to Ronnie (Service Manager) and asked him how they felt about modifications. He told me that as long as the work is done by a good mechanic and is nothing like choping springs or anything of that nature we can work things out.
So, no problem about the chip or exhaust.
Maybe we should meet one of these days and go up to the track (75/80 or MIR)
