well as the title says my motor recently bit the dust. It was cruisein down the highway at about 75mph and all was good till the motor shutter for a split second then BANG! oil was all over the road and now i'm out of a truck, for a little bit anyway. my truck is a 2000 with only 50000 miles on it, i got the basic mods (4lber, intake, exhaust and safe JLP tune) but i thought the bottom end was good to well over 400rwhp, i only have 360. Is this not uncommon? i wasn't floorin it and it was about 50 degrees.

whats it cost for a new motor installed, how bout a built motor? any imput would be appreciated.

AS for built, it's a loaded question, the easy answer is plan on spending 12K
before your done if you give your truck to a Tuner and let them do it right.

You can buy a built motor for @ 7.5K put together ready to drop in, but as said you'll want other things addressed while it's out.
Fuel System, TQ Convertor, Inj's, Maf, and LT Headers at the least.
Add belts hoses fluids tuning and extras and belive me it's over 10K

Man...that screws the pooch. Sorry about that I winch everytime I get on mine w/49,600, but the 02 had a new factory warranty 04 motor put in it one year before I got it. It had 39,600 when I bought it about one year ago. I am interested on who has the best deals on a built long block that will handle at least 600 rwhp. Good luck.

 

I went with a JLP built Longblock, just a few pennies over 8K. Of course it comes ready to drop in. JDM's does too, not sure about the difference in the price. You can do that with no other upgrades and should be ok. The new heads and cams will even add a little more power. JLP will send you a new tune for the new motor...you are already using his tune arent you?

I got a great L engine from Kar Kraft Engineering earlier this year but they were the hardest people to understand and work with.

Isn't that the ultimate. Tune believed to be safe blows motor and now go to the same vendor for a built motor.

No one can go blaming Johnny or the tune without knowing ALL the "facts", the owner doesnt seem to be. First of all how long has he owned the truck ? How long has the tune been in there ? Whats been done to the truck since the tune ? When was the last time he changed his fuel filter ? 50,000 miles is not A LITTLE when it comes to a modded Lightning with a stock block.

Schitt how many hundreds if not thousands have blown for NO reason. How many of you on on your 3rd built motor, so we lift heads and eat pistons instead of venting them. I'm not sticking up for Johnny, I'm reminding people that MANY have eating a motor because of something as simple as a Fuel Filter. Ask Hostile whats going on with him right now, remember what happen to me when Blacky was brand new, no one knows WHY it always happens,

Anyone see the news last night ? they just arrested and fined "multi gas stations" in my area for charging you for 93 octane in the 93 Octane Pump, BUT goving you 89 Octane. I'm glad they caught a few of those MF'rs and they said there's MORE. Do you think this scam is only done in NY ??? Add to that the Winter Chemicals NY uses and god knows what the hell your running. Yesterday I put 70.00 of 100 Octane Racing Fuel in mine, I DONT TRUST NO ONE...

 

WOW! Are you fecking serious? Don't they know they could be responsible for vehicle damage on vehicles that require high octane fuel and giving them falsely sold 89 octane? That's why I only get gas at a station I know is legit. The owner is a family friend who's a former Lightning owner and currently owns two c6 z06's and I doubt he's going to mess with his own fuel owning two c6's.

I suspect a station near me of doing that (*cough* camel jockey *cough*) because I was filling up a work vehicle with premium and the guy said "why not get regular and save money, it's the same thing" - his exact words. Needless to say, when I got on the gas WOT, there was definite detonation noticeable!

 

For the record, I agree with Rob and intended no dig at JL. His record of success speaks for itself.

But for whatever reason, if a tune can't handle weather conditions or a tank of bad gas -- like the tune that Ford supplied with the truck -- then I don't see how it can be called "safe." I also recognize that it may have been "safe" when JL shipped it, but other modifications since then may have rendered it "unsafe."

 

Dont get me wrong there have been many a tune over the years from many differant places that CAN be blamed, but we truly dont have all the facts.

Ya that Gas Scam bothers me, they got "3" so gar

(CBS/AP) MINEOLA Three gas stations in Nassau County are being charged with selling regular gasoline at premium prices.

The Nassau District Attorney says a four-month investigation by the county consumer affairs office found that motorists thought they were getting 93 octane gasoline - when it was less.

D.A. Kathleen Rice says in each case, a detective from her office bought a container of 93 octane gasoline from the three stations. The gas was tested and each one failed the octane test.

The D.A. said the stations charged are Island Gas in Valley Stream, U.S.A. Gas in Valley Stream and U.S.A. Gas in Franklin Square.

Rice said they are charged with scheming to defraud and petty larceny.

TG I live East of there now in Suffolk Country but I know each of those Stations, i grew up in Nassau, have family in nassau, and vist nassau all the time. AMOF each of those station are within 5 minutes of where I use to live and still visit often. (I've used that Franklin Sq Station MANY MANY times)

The news on TV went on to say the investigation is on-going (TG) and others will be caught. They also said the switch can be made very easily by them (the station owners) ABOVE GROUND, so bet your *** A LOT ARE DOING IT

Buyer Beware, as said use a trusted station, since that time I almost blew up Blacky due to bad gas back in early 02, "I only fill up a 2 stations" Sunoco, and Sunoco (oh ya and my 100 octane Race Fuel by Sals Shop)
