Arrow 41HP from headers???

Here is an interesting thread on the PSP site. The talk is that a set of headers will generate 41-44HP for an L. What do you think?? http://www.powersurgeperformance.net...ML/000004.html

From all that I have read on this Board regarding exhaust systems is that a change only generates a better sound not Horse Power.

Cool

I think it kind of depends on your mod level. On a stocker, I doubt that you'd see 40 hp. However, on a juiced truck with lots of other mods, the stock manifolds can be a restriction. Tuning these trucks seems to be all about avoiding bottlenecks. As you remove one bottleneck, you expose others that you didnt have to worry with previously.

hey guy's, i think the one's there talking about are long tube headers, not the shorty bassanis or jba type, that you have heard about in these post's, that have not helped most, other than sound.later

I was the one that called Greg about these LONG TUBE HEADERS that Top Gun posted about on the PSP Board.
Their are conflicting storys about only a 12-14 hp gain by themselves but 44hp with maf, chip and fiter.
Then there is the size, step configuration, etc.
Top Gun said he will have a set made for his Lightning to do a before and after test, SO THE JURYS STILL OUT as far as I'm concerned. I'll be first in line if they do produce 44 hp by themselves.
Can you say"anyone want to buy a used set of Bassani Headers"???
Hope this helps?

I noticed that you were involved. Do let us know what the outcome is.

12-14 hp gain by themselves
If this is true, I might also consider them.

FORDSALES-You Bet!
Maybe we can do a Group Buy if this pans out.
Will this quest for more and more MODs ever end?
My Answer-Not until they pry my Lightning from my cold dead hands!!!!
Take care,
Dan

I know for a fact that you can get over 14 horsepower from long tube headers. I made 386.4 horsepower and 465 ft. lbs. of torque yesterday at Paul's High Performance with about 20 members of the Ford Motorsport Enthusiast watching. Here is a photo of the prototype header (left side) I start polishing my new 304 stainless headers Monday.

I will post a photo of them too.
PS. I will be over 400 HP / 500 ft.lbs. of torque for Norwalk. (without spray)

Hey BAbolt nice photos as always. My truck was delivered monday with perfect run to header man in Phoenix. I am having both set of headers built standard stepped to 2.0" and the 8 into ones with a single 5.0" muffler. About 2 to 3 weeks for both systems? I have baseline run at Paxton so I can compare both systems versus stock. I think I will have Swanson try for the tune with the stock motor. Also we were able to add 1/4" of stroke to the new crankshaft. Carillo supplied the rods so we could get actual measurements and swing the parts. Gregs story on header is sounding more consistent with your findings that it took maf and aircleaner etc to make the power. I will put a fork in it within the next month with both systems installed and tuned.Love your cylinder head mockup if you ever want to get into the aerospace business let me know. Also are you selling your trucks?

Chet / Jim and anyone else that would like to take a look.
This is a close-up of my new stainless steel headers. I will start polishing them within the next day or two.

By the time that I have them ready to go on I should be generating an honest 450 rear wheel horsepower. The nice thing about this is it's not outrageous ( except the exhaust note at full throttle)and it looks like a boulevard queen. In regards to the Lightnings being for sale only if someone asks. I have no plans to beg for a buyer.

BABolt,

Those are beautiful. Who makes them for you? Did the same guy do your mustang (think I remember seeing a picture of those as well)?

Thx,
