NASCAR Edition F150 At The Track
Does anybody know what numbers a NASCAR edition should post at the track? My bud ran his for the first time this Saturday (Tri-State Dragway, 585 feet elevation, 67 degrees, dry air, so-so traction) and managed a best 16.55/81 with 60-foot times in the 2.4-2.6 range. We softened the rear tires, pumped up the fronts, folded the mirrors in, and cooled the engine. He launched from a power-braked 2000-3000 RPM with very little, if any wheelspin. Just curious what one of these things should be running, as he really wanted to break into the 15's (doesn't look too good right now without some mods).
I turned an all-time best of 13.9/98 with a 2.05 60-foot time. I suppose this isn't too bad with relatively poor traction conditions (pronounced wheelspin every pass), 1400 miles on the clock, and NO mods, plus a 3/4 tank of gas (BONEHEAD!).
There were two other 2000's there (a silver and a black). Neither of them have heard of this site, and it was obvious that they would benefit by an occasional log-on. The silver (14,000 miles since February) was filthy, beat to death, and showed some cob-jobbing under the hood. He was running 13.7-14.1 with a filter and "new Superchip". I referred him to the "proper authorities" as he was obviously all messed up with the chip and filter (should have been mid/low 13's). His buddy with the clean black one, "bone stock" as he claimed (but some minor modification at least with the airbox snout torn out) was ripping off 13.5-13.6's all day at over 100 mph. No exhaust work on either, so it sounded COOL AS HELL when they ran side-by-side. Nothing but screaming blowers as they shot past.
Only three WS-6 F-Bodies there. The Z28 was beatable, but the two Trans Am's were WAY out of reach - low 13's for the "stock" one and the modded one was down in the 12.7's. Neither of the new 'Vettes were to be messed with, especially the one with the big blue bottle under the hatch (high-11's/low-12's).

From what I've seen, sounds like there's nothing wrong with your buddies NASCAR Edition. She was doing what she'll do.

What motor does the Nascar edition have? Ran my '00 5.4 4x2 regular cab at the track for the first time this weekend. Ran a best of 15.578 at 88.22 mph. I didn't think that was too bad.

The NASCAR edition is a regular-cab fleetside with the Triton 4.6 (truck version) and a non-locking rear axle. I'm not sure about the bed length, but I think it's a long bed. The tires are just a little wider and lower-profile than the usual, and this example has an auto tranny.

Hey Guys
The Nascar edition is basically an XL with carpet, nascar emblem seat/floormats, 3.73 open rear end, short bed, stock tires 255/75-16, auto, 1-2 inches lower than stock w/stiffer suspension, cruise and the 4.6L Windsor engine. I also think the stock computer was a little hotter than stock, maybe an extra 5-10 hp difference, not all that much. I drove an 98 4.6 XLT w/3.55 and then drove my 98 Nascar which I noticed slight acceleration difference but they may have just been the rear end. I have not yet ran at the track, just the G-Tech. Sorry everything is rambling together, I'm in a hurry, about to leave work
