I'm in the same boat as you but i'm probobaly making about 400rwhp, and i've read alot of people are saying that the 555r's in the rain can slide out w/o warning, but the best dalily driver tire then would be the Nitto 555 that are on my truck now and are good and a runner up being the Toyo Proxis, my friend w/ an '02 has them on his L and loves them. I've found the Toyo's for $160ea+Shipping and tax if applicable and the Nitto 555 were $200ea and the 555r were about $235ea. I'm going with the Toyo's or the 555 again. BTW, i think the 555r drag radial is only available in a 305/45/18 size. Check out Treaddepot.com

I had 555's slide out from me when the ground was wet.

I use toyo proxies now. cheap, long lasting, and do the trick.... not the best tires in the world traction-wise, but if you're really interested in hooking at the track just get slicks.

Mine kicks out without warning in the dry

The F-1's as you know are easy to overpower HOWEVER I'd almost agree they're the best "all around" choice. I'm running the 555R's on the rear now and Proxies on the front, love them but it's like driving on ice with this new SC so I cant really judge how much better they'd be than F-1's.

I would have to argue with that statement. 555 hook/F1's don't. F1's wear the fastest and have the least traction. Just from my and most of the experiences i've been reading. I haven't seen more than two people that have put F1's back on thier truck as a replacement.

Uhhh..make that 3. I love the Goodyear F1's and also think they are the all around best choice. And I've had the Nitto 555r's also. But my vote goes to Goodyear F1's. Just my opinion though.

There is only one tire that will help in both places...Track and Road.
The 555'r will hook if the road surface is warm and the outside temp is above 70*F.
In the summer my truck hooks really good on the street with the 555r's out back.
With the Nitto's it takes less skill to get a good hole-shot at around 400 RWHP.

Would you believe FOUR?

My L is strictly a daily driver -- no track racing -- and after a lot of research, I've also stayed with the F1s. They're certainly not cheap, though!

555Rs on the rear is the only chance for traction when power is increased. The F1s are useless.
Nitto DRs are fine in wet weather. Expect them to last 10-12K miles.

Nitto's DR's are a good choice traction wise but you pay for it with less durability, I like my Eagles while we all know there issues, I just changed my first set last year, 25K, 1 autocross event, 15-20 passes and they still had tread (not much) and the 2 times I've been in the rain they got me home with little fanfair, 190.00 a pop from my dealer, 900.00 for the set including tax, install, disposal ect...

Just to add a word, I have had the Goodyears, Toyo's, and now am trying the Hankooks. The Goodyears give the best ride quality, the Toyos last like crazy but ride much harder, and I find them slippery in the rain. Even a bit more so than the Goodyears. Just started using the Handkooks, the ride quality is between the Goodyears and the Toyos. Better than the Toyos but not like the Goodyears. In the rain the Hankooks are better than the Toyos. So as of this moment I, would say for myself anyway that for the money you can not beat the Handkooks. I'll let you know when I get some more miles on them if I still feel the same!! PS: I had to repair 3 Goodyears and replace 1 due to punctures, they are nail maginets!!!!! LOL Hope this helps a bit. Artie
