Post Goodyear 28 11.50x16 Slick

Just heard tonight that Goodyear makes a motorcycle racing slick that just might work for our trucks. 28x11.50x16 Anyone know anything about it?? I'll try to research it more.

Allready checked that out and it will not work. They have a load rating of about 400lbs a tire. It wouldn't be a wise decision.

Hey Caka, can you give me any performance improvements with the parts you put on? Specifically, how much did each part help you at the track? That Bassani exhaust is pricey and I've heard really doesn't make much difference (except for the headers) is this true? Thanks.

While I was at a friends garage installing my Pro-M and chip, a fellow that owns a speed shop came by. In talking to him, he stated that Goodyear makes a street drag slick that could be used for our trucks. Of course I wanted an 18 inch, to fit the stock rims. He said he would check and get back to my friend. If anything becomes of this, I will post and let everyone know.

MT ET Streets has a great size tire that I would really like to try on the L. Its 28x11.5R15. I think this diameter tire would work much better than the 26" most of us are currently running. If we could only find a 15" wheel with enough offset that would clear the caliper. Still looking for the magic wheel.

Noel,
Bob and I did this about 4 months ago.

It works and there are others I know that are doing it too. Offset is not the issue. This combination allows you to chose any 15 inch drag slick that you wish.

BABOLT.

I remember your original post but aren't yours custom made and very expensive. If offset isn't the issue what is? I thought the problem was the 15" rim touching the caliper.

Noel,

15's will not clear the caliper. BABolt had to grind down the caliper and "E" brake bracket to get the custom 15's to work. Andre and Dad did not want to do any grinding so they are working on offsets.

PS. Andre has the rims and will be testing fit soon.

Noel,
The wheels and adapters are a shelf item. Yes, there is some custom work that must be done to the calipers / rotors but that is what it takes to fit the wheels. When I did the original research on this I spent several month and spoke with over 20 major wheel manufactures (from A to Z). There was only one wheel that had a large enough Bell opening (14.6 and excelent run out) that could work. I know that there are several other board members here that now use this combination so maybe they might like to add in. I can show you how to do it or if the interest is great enough I can provide the parts.

Just some additional information. You cannot provide enough offset. The bell of the wheel will not clear the Caliper/Rotor combination. Oh! it might if you are building a Getto Cruiser or a Hot Wheel ( I think that Mattel has the option on those). Plus if you are thinking of spacers, Dream On, NHRA will through you off the track.

PS. Yes the first design edition had the calipers reworked. The second design is different to say the least.

BA
Are you saying the second design does NOT require modification of the caliper?

Noel,
The information that I have says that I should not have to shave the calipers. But I still have not checked the stack up yet. I need to put the physical pieces together to do that. If in fact the shaving of the calipers would cause you alarm then this design change would not be for you as it involves the pulling of the rear axles and the refitting of the caliper mounting bracket, modified backing plate and new rotors. To the untrained eye this changed once installed is undetectable.

Instead of going to all this trouble why don't you use or make an offset wheel? I believe it only has to be offset by about 1 1/2 inches which isn't as much as the mex low riders cars seem to have.
