??Big Thunk When Starting??
2000 L
2200 fairly easy miles (no burn out stuff).
The last few days, in the morning, there is a big clunk when starting, almost like a muffled backfire.
I checked the FAQs. Any ideas???

tmiller, Could be your AC compressor when it cycles on first time after start-up; it's on my punch list along with intercooler leak and front end clunk when I visit the dealer next Monday. I'm at approx 12K miles.

Steve,
You have hit this right on the head, I think.
When they were trying to sell me a bed liner and all that, the paper guy (of all people) told me that you need to turn off the AC and went off into this mumbo jumbo about just what you said.
Like it was common knowledge to everone but me, that if you did not turn off your AC when you shut your engine down, the AC would start self destructing.
And, if it did self destruct, because I did not know how to operate a vehicle, that it would not be covered by Ford.
I thought it was the dumbest thing I ever heard (as smart as I am) but I have done as you say the last few days and it works!!!!
Now, something is going on and it damn sure isn't that compressor alone. I bought a 5.4 Expedition Saturday and I am going to be watching it like a hawk.
I bet you it is something to do with a momentary simultaneous loading of the supercharger and the AC compressor.
But then, this L has really made me realize that I am not so damn smart. Right now, your idea is the best...
