CHIP TEST
Just put a 125 miles on my new R9 Superchip. After 3months of reading everything you guys had to say about your first runs I found it to be true. The WOT was unreal - the noise - watching the boost -the tack - speedo climbing - the shifts ( Hard and solid), it was a heart pumper for sure. The surprising thing I found was when your just driving normal, or should I say within the law. The truck is smooth as silk. By that I mean when you give it a little gas (as normal before chip)now it just wants to take off easier- less effort if you under stand what I'm saying. The shifts are firm but not bangers until WOT. For the guys that were worried about the harsh shifts for daily driving forget it. This is the chip. Sorry for long post just wanted to share the info. PS Ordered chip and had it in truck 3 work days later-- The service is great. Every Email was answered timely. Great SERVICE-- Don

Now that the cat is out of the bag, I can also talk about the new 2000 R/9.
Following is an e-mail that that I sent Mike at SuperChips regarding the 2000 R/9 chip that I have been using for the couple weeks.
NOTE:
Mike, my thoughts on your new R9 for the 2000 L.
When I purchase my L, I wanted it for what it was, the fastest production truck in the world even though I would never race it. The truck’s performance is great but I was always a little disappointed in how it performed on the low end. Since I use it as my daily driver and not racing, I seemed to be always trying to get a little more oomph out of it to go from stop sign to stop sign. That is the reason for changing from stock 3.55’s to 4.10’s.
I sent the SuperChip back to you for a re-burn and while waiting, I had a chip from another tuner re-burn his chip that I also own. Even though I now had 4.10’s and another chip re-burn, the L still felt sluggish, even heavy, once again, driving from stop sign to stop sign. I was disappointed that I had spent a lot of $$$ for changing gears and re-burns and I had not received what I was hoping for. I had decided that maybe what I was looking for, because of the weight of the L, was not possible. The L is not a sport car.
On Friday I received your chip, stuck it in, drove it around the streets in the evening, never going to WOT and I got so excited that I drove back home and posted a note up on the board.
Your chip gave me exactly what I have been hoping for in the L, exactly what I have been spending money for: that sport car feel, quick, a light feel, responsive at the low end. It felt just plain damn good.
Sunday, I got up early to try the chip out on a less crowded freeway. Going WOT is a little hard to do in Calif. with all the cars on the road. First I wanted to see if the L would shift to first gear while running at 40 MPH. I ran the truck up to about 43-44 MPH and stepped on it. The truck literally laid rubber. That impressed the heck out of me, not going to that any more. Then I tried to discover the shift points. I think they are about 5500-5600 RPM’s. Correct me if I am wrong. I was trying to watch the tack but it was pulling so hard and traffic was coming up so fast, I had trouble keeping and eye on the gauge.
I am impressed with the way it now shifts. While driving around town, the trans. doesn’t slam into gear. It feels like it leaps or lunges forward as it shifts. It gives me the feeling that there is POWER under the hood. It’s the same at WOT. No slamming into gear. The truck lifts. Once again, giving me the feeling that there is power. That is what I have been searching, not the quickest time at the strips but the knowing and feeling that power and performance is there when I need it from stop sign to stop sign.
One last comparison: My other chip while under WOT was good BUT when letting off the throttle, the trans. would shift from third back into overdrive so hard that the engine belts would screech from slipping. The Super, under the same scenario, shifts back into overdrive without the harshness. Where your chip feels great at that point, it is the reason I had taken the other chip out of the L.
So far, I have not noticed any pinging or detonating using Calif. 92 octane gas. Let me know, in your testing of the R9 chips, if there might be a problem.
Your chip has given me what I have been looking for in my L. I no longer have a need to spend $$$$ on the next speed mod. I don’t need to change my filter to a MAF or any other mod that MIGHT give me more. I am happy, THANKS and tell Jay "WELL DONE."

hmm. thats good to hear. I had to sell my superchip because even after a reburn to the latest pre-R9 program it still hit a wall at 90mph. You would actually see the truck's front end drop and plow like I had hit the brakes. I switched to a powersurgeperformance.net chip and the problem went away.

I am sorry that I can't saying a thing about the "wall"
I did't run it much past 95 and at that MPH, I didn't notice anything.

Thanks for the brutally honest report! If anyone was on the fence (including me) on what type of chip to buy, you made a believer out of me! Is this the best bang for the buck? What about a throttle body (single blade type) and a Airaid Box with a better filter?
Jim,
nice post. I have an R7 in my truck and am switching to the R9, as I am one of the apparently small number of those with cutoff problems.
I am sure the R9s will eliminate this.
The chip was everything I hoped for and more.

Fordsales, when talking about the belt slip I assume you are talking about Swanson's chip. I am experiencing the same thing. Is the R9 chip the only one that solves this problem? Do you PSP, SHM or Inject tech chip users get the "belt slip?"
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks,
Mike
I can't compare the R9 chip b/c I have a '99 model, so that chip doesn't work with my truck. However, with the CUX1TRAC program I got much harsher (not firmer...I'm talking "slam-shifting) shifts into all gears than with the chip I'm currently running. I could definitely hear the "belt slip" you guys refer to when stomping on it and then getting off it and it shifts into OD.
The R9 is a different beast for you '00 owners, so that's great.
FWIW, I do get that noise with my PSP chip in my '99. However, in back to back testing on the dyno and on the street there is no comparison in _my_ truck as to which chip performs better. (do search if you're interested). Both chips are way above stock levels of performance, however.

Wes et al,
I am running an R9 in my 99 (got it and put it in yeterday) and it's everthing described above. It's totally a new truck!! As far as a "wall" I ran solidly up to 120 today on the I95 north of Jupiter Fla. and had plenty more to go (reached ~4000 rpm). I ran it all around town and had no problems. The low end is awesome. This is the first chip I've run so I dont have anything for comparison. I don't see how it could get much better!!

After 11,000 miles in stock form, less intake, I decided it was time for a chip. Wanted a PSP, but never got a return call after leaving a message. To be different, I ordered a Swanson chip for my 99. Recieved the chip today, but did not install. Will do the install in the AM. Looking forward to the change, but if not the least bit satified, Mike will be getting a call from me.
I have some questions about this R9 business! If I purchase a superchip/R9 how much will it cost to upgrade to the next best code when it comes out (R10 or whatever)??? What about if I get a gear change? Will that cost me? How about the Pro-M issue? Will I have to get it reprogrammed for that and will it cost me more? Also how much does this awesome chip cost? Who do I call to get one? How is the availibility and support?
Sorry for all the questions... I just want to make the right decision and I know you guys can help
Mike hook me up!

I put the R7 in my 00L last week and it is everything that ya'll are describing for the R9, except part throttle shifts can occasionally be very solid, have had a couple of pings and a shut-offs. All this said, I was was blow away by performance increase, totally new character for truck. Turning chip off after getting adjusted to performance is very disappointing experience, seems very slow w/o chip.
Will be calling Mike tomorrow for R9 upgrade. Do not know why I received an apparently obsolete program only 10 days ago. I had asked Mike for equivalent of 99R9 since I had heard reports of its performance and was told the R7 was the equivalent of 99R9 and it was their most advanced program. No hint of anything in the wings. Guess I am thrilled and complaining at the same time.

hey fast gator,if you use a chip mainly for the strip you will love the swanson chip.mine is a flip chip and in the drag mode i ran a 13.159 et about 8.30 this evening and this chip is about 3 or 4 tenghts faster than the first 00 superchip.the shifts are firm but that is a good thing just ask someone who works on trannys for a living. i also like the street mode and there is no surging or pinging in mine.there was a guy from indiana that also did a 13.1 tonight using a diablo chip any body ever here of them ? h e had two versions and i got a look at one and it looked nothing like a superchip, swanson or inject chip all three of which iv'e tried. if any body that has a new superchip get's a lower e/t than 13.1 i would consider trying one so does anyone here have e/ts for the newer superchip? later, e/ts talk dyno #s walk.
