Lightbulb Drag racing....need launching tips

My freind with an F150 (non-lightning 5.4 ltr) is doing some drag racing this weekend. We tried a few launches and the truck bogs really bad off the line. With the brake on I cant get the tires to spin to get a launch. Is there something I can do to get this beast out of the hole?

Thanks

Have to agree with Amy on this one. The only thing in the FAQ that deals with launching applies to drag slicks, not street tires, and her friend's problem is bogging, not wheelspin. My guess would be got to power brake that sucker, get the revs up nice and high before releasing brake.

Wow... such restraint... 6 posts and no one yelled at the guy to do a search

I did one - some good info on launching non-Lighting's here: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/000728.html

Anyway, its steven... not Amy... common mistake I'm sure.

Power braking with street tires????????Give me a break. They'll spin all the way thru 1st and 2nd if you do that and your times will suck. The best is to launch from idle and if you really have restraint to slowly press the pedal down to maximize traction. Best solution. Buy MT ET STREETS.

I think we're talking about a non-Lightning here. Power break the snot out of it. Then go buy an L.

We tried to power break it.....but the tires held and the revs stopped at like 2500.....then when we released the break it bogged. It is the 5.4 ltr NON SC motor

Thanks all :-)

You need to get a 3.55 or a 3.73 gear. Im not sure what gear comes in it, but almost certin it is not a 3.55. Changeing to a 3.55 will get you in the power alot faster, thus maybe elemination the bog. If you are trying to bracket race, leave the bog. The slower you are, generally the more consistant (street cars). Example our 95 T-bird (witch also bogs off the line) runs 10.3's out at LSR and has won 2 trophys, where as the truck runs 8.3's and has yet to win a trophy due it's inconsistanty.

PS, Beastie comes out of the body shop tomorrow!!!
