Post I just ordered a 2001 L

Greetings.

This is my first post on the board after lurking for quite a while. I just ordered a 2001 L through carsdirect.com for sticker price, because my local dealers are all getting $1500 to $3000 above sticker here in the Los Angeles area for the last couple of 2000's. They claim I will have the 2001 truck in early October. I heard that the production run starts December. Anyone with any info on this, or any insight on what the truck will sell for? The sticker is $31,995.

Thanks in advance, and I hope to be able to give back to this board everything I have gotten out of it and more!

Most likely, from what I've heard, you won't be getting your new truck until Jan.-Feb. What the L would sell for? A 2001, you could probably sell it for $500 off of what a dealer would be selling it for, and get hundreads of calls. Supply and demand.

Question

I have an opportunity to buy a Black 1999 with 17,000 miles and a few extra add ons for around 28 grand. I'm not thrilled with the cosmetic changes on the 2001 and this 1999 is in mint condition.

What's a guy to do?

Buy the 99 and 2001, just give the 2001 to me!!!

Actually, do whatever suits your needs (finacially, automotive, etc.). the 2001 has more power, it SHOULD have a fix for the "clunk" and intercooler problem. Personally, I just think the wheels takes time getting used to, like the new mustangs (still working on that one). But that's just me. Whatever you do, hope things work out!

BTW In a few posts back, a 1999 SVT L with 20,000 in mint condition re-sales for $29, 770 ( i believe that's what it was), and it also reads that Edmunds marks it lower. Like i said above, supply and demand.
From what i've seen, $28,000-$28500 is the norm DISCOUNTED, $35,000 (Galpin Ford) is the regular.

I have 2 of them ordered! I may drop one of them at one of the dealers.....or might hang onto it for someone else. The estimated build time is around 12/04/00. Maybe a late x-mas present????

I had a deposit on a 2000 Silver Lightning at Vista Ford. When it came in they wanted $1500 over the $31,400 sticker. I really liked the Silver but I refused to pay over sticker.

The guys at carsdirect.com must have some bad information. Besides telling me that my 2001 would arrive in October, they also said that the L would not be made in Silver this year. Black, white, and red only. Edmunds site still shows Silver as a choice. I haven't been able to verify anything about the 2001 yet. Time will tell.

Cool

One of our board members (FORDSALES) told me that there were 3 L's for sale at Huntington Beach Ford, Black, Red, Silver, all 2000's, I believe he said price was around $28,500, I could be mistaken on price, and possibly the colors. (Read: Only hearing what I want to). But don't touch the Black!! I have dibs . Hah.

I am struggling with ordering a 2001 or just buying a 2000. There are five 2000 Ls sitting on the dealers lots within 30 mi of me . 2 black, 2 silver, 1 red. I tried to order a 2001 and the local SVT dealer said he does not have the info in his computer to make the order (Ford won't accept the order yet?)They are dealing on 2000s right now. Masheter Ford in Columbus Ohio was advertising them for 28,888. They had 2 blacks on the lot last week. My local dealer also said he would make a "real good deal" on his remaining 3 2000's. I am wondering if the 2001 upgrades are worth the extra money.

Galaxy,

Your local SVT dealer should look a little deeper. Sounds like he wants to sell some or all of his 00's before taking any 01 orders.

The 01 info has been available for ordering since early July.

I have an order number and a serial number for the 01 I ordered at my dealer on July 17th.

Good luck!

I can help you get a 2000. The price will be MSRP. Sorry, in Calif. that would be considered a great price.

There is a post floating around right now talking about Mike Bass Ford in Cleveland selling for $28,500. If this is true, I would call them, give them $$$$ to hold the L, fly out, take a taxi and purchase. You won't find it cheaper, you'll save $$$ and have a great time driving back home.

I purchased mine from Vista Ford and I paid MSRP

Thanks for the info SVT_Wannabe. I just emailed it to my SVT dealer. Hopefully now he will come up with some real info. What was your quoted price on the 2001? I am assuming MSRP.

Wash n Wax, its the gears, man. Get the 20001. I am almost certain it comes in silver. Besides more h.p. (stock, anyway), it should have an intercooler that doesn't leak, and possibly a fix for the front end clunk. But most important, it will come with 3.73 gears, which should work a lot better than the 3.55s in the 2000. You'll save a lot of money on the gear swap, plus you won't need a chip to recalibrate the speedometer. If Vista won't sell it to you for list, I know a dealer 40 miles from you who will sell you one for sticker. If interested, e-mail me for details.

Wash,

Silver is an available color. I was promised MSRP for the price, which was not available when I placed my order. Edmunds.com has some info on the 2001 Lightning as well.

Good luck!
