Unhappy Strange performance problem?

I have a stock 2000 lightning with about 1200 miles on it and I am having a strange problem. When I have the truck at full throttle, sometimes between the 3000 and 5000 rpm range it feels like I let off the accelerator about 20% for just a second and then it goes back to full throttle. Problems is I never let off the accelerator. It doesnt happen every time, it only happens about 50% of the time. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Going to take it in on Monday to have them look at that, the "clunk", and a defective passenger seatbelt issue. Let me know!

Thanks!!!

Sam,
Does it happen right after the shift into second? I know the stock PCM shuts down 4 cylinders but after the shift I feel a slight dip for a second. If it isn't this then I don't know what it is.

Hello all..

I have felt some uneven acceleration in my 99 L during WOT. At first I thought it was knock retard or perhaps slippage in the trasnmission. Now I think it is the shifting. The truck seems to stumble a bit in between shifts. I do not have a chip but I suspect it will be cured when I get one..

I dont know if it really is shifting since it usually happens around 3000-4500 rpms, plenty of room left before it shifts and it doesnt always do it. I know its a drag because it happend day before yesterday when i was racing a z28 and i had him right at my door dead even when it happened he pulled about a foot and a half on me.

Next time you feel the loss of power look at your boost gaudge. You could be lossing boost. I would get it checked out if I were you.

My understanding is that all 2000s are programed for 87 octane gas. Go to dealership have them check the boost function and tell don't ask them to reprogram for 92 octane or they can have the truck back. Don't take no BS.

Sounds like a good idea. I always put 93 octane in it of course. Do you have any idea if making that change to the computer will effect anything when I put a chip in there? Probably R9 Superchip.

If the above doesn't work, ask the dealer to try another computer.

I have a chipped 2000 and it does the same thing. Could it have something to do with torque converter lock-up? (I've actually read of the condition before, although I can't remember where.)

Red face

Doug: EXACTLY

Have any of you guys gotten an explanation from a dealer on what this might be? Mine is going into the shop on Monday, I will let you guys know what they say (Bankston in Frisco).

I guess its both good and bad that I am not alone on this one :/

What you are describing could be torque convertor lock-up. As I recall in talking w/Mike at Super Chips today, he mentioned this happens at about that rpm level in third and brings about a 100 lb-ft drop in torque. He also said the R9 chip postpones full throttle lock-up till OD and Trac program no lock-up. This phenomena was still present in third gear with R7; R9 on order.
