Red face BIG BROTHER COMING TO YOUR CAR SOON

Announced recently for trial soon in England is a lojack similar system for every car. It will monitor location AND SPEED all the time. They will mail you a ticket. Testing and financed by American companies. Enjoy while you can.

That sounds like a device that will have a very high failure rate in my vehicle. How long do you think it will take someone to come up with a way to fake it out? I'm in for a group buy on that!

The technology is already here, but there is no way in hell ot would ever be allowed to be used here in the states. The ACLU would fight that till the end of days, if it ever was brought up it would be held up in the courts forever. Also, no politician who would ever want to get reelected would allow it to happen.

I think if that device goes through here, it would be total chaos. I dont want the goverment having that much control over me. They can already listen in on our converstions, use sattlites to watch us, our cars and trucks are the only part where we cant be monitored. at least for now.

For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the device, but for years I subscribed to a couple of English trade magazines dealing with trucks and transportation (I worked for Volvo and later SAAB-Scania who did major truck sales.)

Anyway, they had a strictly mechanical device, rather old fashioned, that monitored distance travelled, maximum speeds, time off the road and a few other things which could be used to determine if the drivers were slacking off, making up for the slacking off by speeding and so on.

It generated a lot of press at the time, 20 years ago, and I think the drivers lost their case as it was determined that the vehicle owners had a right to measure how efficient the drivers were.

I rather doubt that such a system would be accepted here.
Certainly not by me anyway.

I was watching some show on Airplace Black Boxes... and they said that some cars now have them too.

The Corvette has them. I think it started in 2000, not sure though. It senses a hard movement and records all data including speed.

That technology is here in the garden state in the form of EZ pass. You have a monitor on your windshield for use on toll roads. It has the time and date of every toll plaza you go through. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure your speed, when the known distance and elapsed time between the known toll plazas are entered into the equation. BTW Have already recieved a letter from Big Brother (EZ Pass Authority)for speeding thru toll plazas

Bill Murray - If memory serves me, I believe that device was called a tri-corder. Or at least that’s the official name the company I worked for used for it. The employees had a couple of other names that I won’t go into here. The ones we had used a round paper disk that was good for seven days. There were three pins that recorded speed, time at speed and time idle. We had to turn it in every Monday morning if we expected to get paid on Friday.

LOL How many tickets are they allowed to issue you in one day? I know I do a lot of running around,I must hit 120 at least 3 times DAILY. That will never happen.....

Yeah, its going to be funny, because my transponder will coincidentally report a condition of spontaneous combustion as a do a 30 second 4th gear burnout on it.

I worked for a place that put a device called Geotec. Thing was a real piece of s#*t,could unplug it and really f@ with the computer that tracked you. The computer would give speed(peak and real time),how long you were in one place, where you stopped and how long.If you look at all of these units there is always a way to defeat one or more modes. They pulled them out after about 2 monthes because the computer crashed abuot 4 to 5 times a day and every time you had to reboot it (10 min. process). My unit was a defective unit.Always had trouble with it,technician could never find out why?

I agree with Wes....unfortunate and constant failure of this garbage.

Sounds like a mixture of LOJACK and GPS technologies. Scarry stuff. Just like that POS V-chip. Not is my house.

Heck, a hand-held GPS is more accurate than a large majority of speedometers.

Borrowed one (GPS) from a friend for vacation. Got an intersting look when he asked me why my fastest speed was 103 I didn't earn this nickname for nothing.

Actually a form of it is in use here now. Almost all semi trucks loaded with drugs are currently tracked this way in the US. It is primarily used for location, but the trailers are equiped with a transponder to show location. I don't know if it works off of satillite or the phone towers.

On the other hand, a device like this could come in handy in a couple of years, when my youngster borrows the L for an evening of cruising.

Big Daddy is watching?
