BaBolt/Moses,
Any pricing on those headers. I've been in contact with Hooker and they say they'll have long tube headers for our L's in September.
Group buy?

Moses,
RE: pulley
I've read all the info on the faq about undersize pullies and was under the impression that the Eatons could not withstand any additional rpms. Got any specs on what yours is turning and wether or not there will be a longeveity problem?
Like the idea of the water cooling the water, but Babolt is right.....tha' momma uuugly.

Moses,
Beleive it or not but before the 2000 drag racing season is over we will be seeing Focus' running Lightning times. Maybe a few Lightnings may be embarassed by a Focus or two. The zetec is a sweet little motor with a lot of potential just begging to be unleashed. The Focus that I showed with the header has already run a best time of 15.77 seconds at 88 mph on street tires, no chip an underdrive pulley, aftermarket aircleaner and the long tube header. In fact there is no cat on this car and it now has well over 1000 miles since the header install and no codes have been set off.
In regards to the pulley change on the Lightning there is so much BS around this that you cannot tell what the facts are any more. The one real problem is screw up the install and you will damage the bearing, first you will hear it and then you will know it. There are owners out there that know how to do it right and they get to reap the rewards. This you know.

Moses,
Comprendo on the mfgs safeguards. I've got an airaid w/K&N filter for the "in". Looking to go w/long-tube headers and high-flow mufflers if I can "GET SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS THREAD" for the "out".
Thanks for the info.

Maybe this has been answered elsewhere, but, if replacing the blower pulley is so easy to screw up, why isn't installing a larger crank pulley the better solution?

BABolt,
There was a little red focus in my neck of the woods who was running 16's in the heat of the day.As the day wore on and it got cooler he knocked it down to 15.0's.Good looking little car,had the wings west ground effects and everything.

I read through what every one on here has said about the pulley, and also went to quite a few other sites and read up about it. Apperently this eaton blower is different from any other roots blower, supposively longer. What was happening was when the blower speed was increased, the flex from manifold back pressure (think that was right) was causing collisions.
What made me decide to go ahead with the install is every manufacturers safeguard.
When it comes to blowers, the standards are set at a extremely safe level.
The pulley doesn't make such a huge difference as to increase the RPM's double the speed it normally travels, if you look at the size difference, it isn't that great of one. The main purpose of the pulley is not for WOT, but so that the engine does not need a high of an RPM to achieve a high boost.
I still took the safeguards though. My theory went with the manifold pressure causeing problems.
I've got the top end of the air flow covered with the complete MAF with filter and chip, now still working on the bottom end with the exhaust. I have high flow exhaust but it's pretty loud.
Both my shop and myself are convinced that I'm safe with my set-up with the smaller pulley. We haven't checked the RPM's that it's spinning at now or what it was before.
But this is just me, there's a few Lightning owners out there that will swear up and down that the pulley will trash the blower. If it's going to, it should have for me now already, I've put 20,000 miles on my Lightning since the pulley install and have not been driving lightly either. Anyways....
Cheers

When I was at SHM's shop a couple weeks ago, seen their "SVT" Focus with the roots blower (and huge exhaust system). But, I don't care how fast they can get them going, you wouldn't catch me taking one of those rice rocket death traps over 60mph.
It's definately amazing what can be done now with the smaller motors. I'm still working on my neices 99 Ranger, before I started, it already had 150hp on a 3.0L. After I chipped it and switched it to premium, wow what a difference. Think when I'm finished with it, it may give my L a challenge.
Been checking into a Garret turbocharger, but can't find anyone to design a safe way to install it. At a dead end now with mods I can do with it for now, but boy does it ever move.
Think it's the backyard mechanics that give the blower pulley a bad name. Everyone I talk to about the pulley, I always emphisize to take it to a shop so it can be properly installed with the hydrolic press. Heard one guy actually used a mallet, just makes me cringe.
