Lightning Exhaust Question...

What's up everyone? Awesome site, I've been searching for answers to this question on this forum but couldn't find the answer so I thought I'd post.

I used to have a 95' Lightning and took the cats off and threw on 1 chamber flows with turn downs and loved the sound.

I recently bought a 2003 Lightning and had a Borla exhaust kit, Superchip, & Intake installed. I've noticed some performance gains but I'm dissapointed with the sound. I know from reading some posts on here that not to many people want that loud, hear you coming from down the street sound but for those of us that do like that sound, what can I do other than removing my cats, which I've heard can mess up the engine throwing it into an open loop. Are highflow cats my only other option? I'd rather hear the rumble sound from the exhuast more than the whistling blower sound. All comments appreciated, thanks.

You are in the People's Republic of California.

I would leave your exhaust alone. Any cat-forward mods run the risk of failing smog inspection.

Tim,

I hear ya, I hear ya. I'm not sure I'll be happy with this stock sounding exhaust for too long though. Especially when I used to have a 95' Lightning that sounded BAD A$$...I'll have to keep searching to see what I can do to get that sound back. Thanks

Get a couple of Magnapacks from Magnaflow and take them to your muffler shop. They sound really nice behind the stock parts.

You could buy the silver bullet from JDM or a bassani catback as well. Both sound much better than the Borla on a stock exhaust.

I just took my Borla Catback off today and it sounds 10 times better. I've been driving it around all day today. I can live with this sound at least until I get some highflow cats & magnaflows. Thanks for all the advice...
