Lightning lighting questions

To brief everyone, I bought Lightning Style headlights and installed it on my 01 F150 Supercrew 4 x 4. I also bought Silverstar Ultras and SilverStar Corner lights.

After spending an hour or so trying to align my headlights, i decided to go to the dealer today, pay the 40 bucks and keep peace of mind. When they were finished, I happily drove home.

I take my family out to dinner tonight, excited about enjoying my evening drive, when I still see the choppiness of the lighting. I also compared the light distance against other cars. my lights are brighter in the low beam, but short in distance and height.

Here are a few shots:

Not sure if it's standard or if it's the Silverstar ULTRA bulbs or the headlight manufacturer. I know of one member with the same issue. Is this normal for those with lightning headlights?

any advice?

IMO, the Lightning headlights just plain suck. They look great on the truck, but they're terrible lights. Mine have a sharp cutoff at the top of the beam so that, if you're going even slightly downhill approaching another hill, you can't see what's ahead. Deer are abundant -- and abundantly stupid -- where I live, so this makes for a dangerous situation.

I love my L, but at night, I'd rather drive my wife's Sport Track with its far superior headlights.

Jim,

thank you for the reply. I am assuming when you mean cut-off of the beam, it's like the pictures i posted?
I wonder if anyone else have the same issues...

Exactly. There is a sharply-defined line at the top of the beam above which there is no light! It's there, but less noticeable, on the low beams as well. I'm sure this was done in consideration of the drivers of oncoming cars, but it limits the L driver's visibility way too much.

Once again, Jim, thanks for the reply. I guess there are issues with the lightning headlights...

The silverstar ultras are a redesign of the silverstar that focus the light more to the ground about 30-50 feet in front of the vehicle (told by sylvania tech help), if you want the beam to go further out in front of the truck try the old style silver stars or buy some of those no-name bulbs from JC whitney (the ones with the blue tint and are about 60 watts on low- off road only).

LTN Dave:

I actually have been researching this issue to find out it was a combo of Ultras and the hedights I bought. I finally settled with OEM Headlights and GE Nighthawks. OEM had better beam output length and width wise and GE nighthawks were better bulb wise at 1750 power compared to the Ultras at 1300.
