'02 Lightning wish list!
Here's something fun. Howabout everybody put in their $.02 in on what they wish Ford would add/change(maybe even delete) to the 2002 Lightning. Who knows, maybe some Ford decision makers might read some of these and they'll make it on the vehicle! ...Yeah right.
My top changes would be:
1. True individual bucket seats w/ a full console in-between them.
2. Bigger gauges(is it gages or gauges?), at least the speedo & tach.
3. A blue metallic exterior color. Either a medium blue like the 99 Cobra, or a dark navy blue.
4. A more high quality looking "Lightning" badge on the front quarter panels.
5. A black leather interior option, and full leather, not just a strip down the middle of the seat.
6. Optional traction control with of course a on/off switch.
7. NEW WHEELS!(or the old ones back)
8. A 5-speed automatic would really be pushing it, huh?
Mine were mostly cosmetic. I'm pretty happy with the mechanicals.

I agree with BerKe on all 8 items.
But.... and I will go down in flames forever on this topic, I would like to see the package offered in either or both a Supercab and Supercrew configuration. They have done/are doing this with the Harley Davidson variant, and they will sell as fast or faster than the Lightnings.
Don't like one, don't buy one, get the regular cab version if still offered or keep or buy a 1999-2001 model.
While I agree it was a different time, remember that you could get a 396/427 Chevvy rat motor in everything from a stripped Chevelle to a full boat Station Wagon 30 years ago. Damn, was it that long ago?
Anyway, most of us do not do autocross stuff with our Lightnings (my utmost respect to those that do) and I would be willing to bet that a chipped/intaked/exhausted SuperCrew Lightning would not be smacked by much if at all by a stock Regular Cab Lightning in acceleration. Modded for modded, no contest, but it would be a matter of some tenths, not even a second I bet.
Food for thought.

1. A more robust lower end that can handle more than 550 h.p. so that those who might want to install a fogger could do so.
2. A blower that isn't limited by vane speed so that people can safely install aftermarket pulleys yielding 16 lb. of boost (see above).
3. A decent intake system.
4. Larger wheels with lower profile tires.
6. A head unit with a CD slot (damn it annoys me that I can't stick in a single CD when I feel like it.
7. 4.10 rear end (absolute must).
What disappointed me the most about my 2K L. is that it is not very susceptible to modification. You can't speed up the blower very much or the vanes will frag. You can only add so much nitrous before the motor blows. There are plenty of other mods that can be done, such as 5 point belts, racing seats, roll cage, etc., but there is a ceiling on the power that cannot be overcome short of swapping motors. Now that I have a little taste of power, too much is not enough.

Not in order or preference
1) Better stereo (my stang's mach 460 blows
the L stereo away)
2) Better tranny shifts from the factory
3) More power (of course)
4) Custom floor mats and dash emblem (my 92 Nite had these as stock)
5) Lowered suspension, like the Roush setup
6) In dash CD Player so as to change a CD on the fly
7) 13" Dual caliper front brakes (don't know what they were thinking when the put 12" on the front of a 4600+ lbs truck, Cobra comes with 13" duals and its 1000+ lbs lighter)
8) slightly louder exhaust
9) Seat position memory
10) Better dimmer switch, its a pain in the dark to find it and get it to work.
Thats about it for now..........

I guess that I will add a bit here as well
on top of all of the other great ideas:
1.) Tires with a stronger sidewall. Those F-1's are paper thin!
2.) adjustable bolstering on the seats.
3.) better sounding exhaust

Well here is my list:
2002 Lightning
1: Heads from the 2000 cobra R
2: Aluminum block with 6-bolt mains(like 4.6 cobra)
3: Even stronger rods(current crankshaft should be strong enough)
4: Aluminum intercooler with twin fans on intercooler radiator
5: Aluminum radiator for engine with an electric fan(gives about 10 more hp)
6: Long tube headers and high flow cats, i think they should not change the cat-back because most people like diff. sounding trucks so they should leave that up to the owner.
7: Aluminum drive shaft would be nice or carbon fiber.
8. Bring back the Ford 9 inch axle, it's one of the strongest you can get.
9. Factory opions on gears(3.55,3.73,4.10,4.30) chose the best one for you needs.
10. A dash that fits a truck this fast.
11. Options on interior colors
12. Better seats
13. Bigger brakes
14. How about some real gauges not idiot gauges.
15. A hood that is diff. from the F-150.
16. In cab tune able shocks(drag, street, track) just an idea.
17. Better head gaskets and ARP head studs would be nice.(that will never happen)
18. Tranny made to handle more than you could ever get out of this engine(which is a hell of alot)
-None of these are in any kind of order, im 17 and a bad speller so give me a break.
-2001 L on order!!

My wish list:
1. Stop production after 2001 for a few years.
2. Start limited production again with the Gen3 Lightnings.
3. Keep the "No options and enjoy the color you get" option.
4. Have a Lighting Performance section in the Ford Motorsports Catalog listing all Dealer (not factory) installed performance items. In other words, if you've got the money, Ford will supply the horsepower. Related to that, Ford should impose restrictions on the dealers so that a high percentage of Lightnings are sold without any of the Motorsport options. Thus, the price would still be reasonable. After a purchase, the buyer could add what is affordable.
Nuff sed.

In no particular order (by the way, I’m not dissatisfied with mine, this would just make em better)
1. Sport bucket seats (all leather) with centre console
2. Power seats both sides memory on drivers side
3. No more cheap plastic dash. Go look at a Mercedes S Class, notice how the
dash is a sold, thick material? That’s what the dash should be like. And make the centre console solid and stylish just like the S Class
4. Better stereo system with very high end speakers and a subwoofer, possible TFT display in the stereo (see Command system in the Mercedes S Class
5. HID headlamps and fog lamps
6. Snug top lo-pro standard with remote lock and unlock
7. Muth style side view mirrors standard/Mercedes style turn flashers on the forward face of the side mirrors
8. Better sounding exhaust note
9. Mercedes quality carpeting
10. Soundproofing all around
11. KN style filter standard
12. Mobil 1 factory fill
13. Bring back the old wheels with locks
14. Bigger brakes (Brembo Cross Vent) with SVT logo on pads
15. Stereo controls in the steering wheel
16. 450 horse power
17. Better gauges. No idiot gauges, brighter green at night
18. 4/48 bumper to bumper warranty with all scheduled maintenance free

Hey Kobiashi, I hate to burst your bubble, but I think it's really asking a lot for "Mercedes Quality Carpeting" and S-Class type center console and high-quality dash. Now look, you're not buying a Mercedes. If you were, it would say Mercedes on it, and it would have amenities you would like, like a full rubber coating on the underside of the car for sound proofing, Mercedes Quality Carpeting, and Solid, thick feeling dash. But then again, you'd be paying a lot of money... for a Mercedes. I don't mean to be rude, but I just think you're expecting too much from Ford, even in a Lightning package. Mercedes don't cost a lot just for the name- it's exactly because of those good designs, engineering, both interior and exterior, and the quality materials.

The topic was "WISH" list
I don't expect it to happen, but I wish it would. In case you're interested, the new volkswagen jetta and GTI have the same build quality as the Mercedes and cost 18000. It can be done. If Ford wanted to do it they could and the price for the L as I described would be around 42-45K. I stress, "if they wanted to". They could, but they won't.
I however can keep wishing.
