Post FYI about all FAQ links with pics on users web space

I just looked at the FAQ for the first time and noticed that my dyno posts were referred to. I don't mind this at all; but, with most of the pics that I've posted, I frequently delete those pics to make room on my VERY small web space that AOL gives me. I was glad to see that I didn't delete the two pics of my dyno pulls. I just wanted to let all involved putting together the FAQ that there may be, in the future, broken web links because people delete stuff after a certain amount of time.

BadBolt

I have been aware of it. But there really little we can do except that if most of the photos on a post finally get broken and it makes that post useless, we will take it off.

But for now we are just trying to get the FAQ's up and running. We will be fine tuning once we are 100% up.

Thanks for your concern

Hey BADBOLT. I understand your problem, but why don't you go to ZING and get free space. I now store all my F-150 pics there in my F-150 album and the space available is large and they don't mind remote linking. Go to http://www.zing.com/

Nice idea but noone except the original poster, except maybe Steve, has the ability to go in and change the links. I don't think Steve has the time to do that and I don't know if he can let one of us do it. Great idea though to preserve the great pics in the how to threads.

Well...

Since I know for sure I'll be using some of those how-to's once I get my truck...

During the next couple of weeks I will go through all the FAQ links and get what I can, including the original poster's permission, so that we can possibly add another link in the FAQ for each of the installs that are currently available. Those seem particularly valuable. How's that sound?

I have been wondering myself what would happen if Steve either sells the Site to someone who's priorities are different or decides the hell with it and pushes the off button. There is an awful lot of good information that would disappear.

I have a how to folder. Print the how tos out and file in a filing cabinet. Some of you older guys know what those are.

After all the "links" are discovered for the FAQ topics, perhaps we can work with Steve to take the text of the discussion and make it its own HTML page rather then a BB link.

FYI, This cut at the FAQ is just the first, and it is really just an information fill.

To be really useful, the info in the links needs to be synopsized and paraphrased. Pics also need to be permanently stored on the server w/ the FAQ, so we don't have problems w/ broken links.

I don't anticipate space being a problem. I have 200 MB now, and can add more as needed. But I DO want to be careful that I get permission from everyone whose pics I "steal" for the FAQ, to make sure it is OK with them first, and also that the donors get proper attribution. Some sites or individuals may still prefer that we link to their servers.

Thanks for your ideas.

How much in total size are we talking about for the all of pics? Any idea?

I'd be willing to donate a fairly large amount of space for hosting the pics from the FAQ links if the original owner of the pic is OK with that. Especially for the things like the install photos. I'd hate to lose those.

Ideas? Questions?
