Angry lawers and speeding tickets

hey all, any body ever throw a bunch of mod money at a lawer to get a speeding ticket changed to some kind of non moving violation mine was 80-55 but iwas really doing maybe 65 or so the cop was moving from other direction when he got me. i had this same thing happen 10 years ago and the magistrate of course sided with the cop so i was thinking it would be cheaper to throw mod money at a lawer if he could get the charges changed to some non points violation so any body who has used a lawer for a speeding ticket was it worth it? on a brighter note went to track tonight and got my best time ever 60ft 1.888 8th 8.440 1/4 13.186 105.01 later.

I just threw 500 bucks at a lawyer who assured me that he could get my excess of 100 mph violation reduced to simple speeding. He didn't, but I did get the minimum fine. Says the judge pro-tem was wrong about the law, and that I could win on appeal, but he wanted another 1500 to do that. I demurred.
Anyway, those are some really nice numbers you are posting. I am waiting for Danny to install a chip. What other mods do you have besides the chip?

Here in wonderful Houston, the fix is in. There are a number of attorneys that do nothing but speeding tickets. Current cost 120.00 each. They just go away. The lawyers contribute to all the judges campaign funds. Just like the good old days.

Didn't your dad ever tell you the Constition is the Law of the land? These are your rights. Here's an exerpt, 7th Amendment.

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the
United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

I know what you are going to say next, but on my last speeding ticket, it cleary states "I waive my right to a Jury trial" I amended the 'Not Giulty' contract so that it states that I request a jury trial in a Court of Law, not in front of a magistrate. The traffic lady didn't seem too confident about what was going on. So I told her 'they' succesfully brainwashed her (with a crooked smile).

Yes, I read the Catcher in the Rye.

hey tundra, this trial would be two hours from were i live so i am looking for a way out of this by throwing mod money at a lawer to make this a non moving violation and not get the insurance points. i know the constitution i think someone needs to teach it to state and federal authorities.i can't afford to make a bunch of trips 2 hours away as i am to busy trying to run a company. later

You might want to take a minute and look at the website of the National Motorists Association. (I think its NMA.org) They have some insiteful information on ways to beat speeding tickets. The first thing is to ALWAYS ask for a continuance. This is the first thing that screws up the system. Cops usually have all the tickets that are written on a specific day(s) heard by the judge at the same time. With a continuance it means that he is going to have to show up just for you.
When I got my ticket in Nov. I requested and recieved 3 continuances. This put it in to July of this year. This time the hearing was before a hearing officer. And now it's "let's make a deal time". Her offer was plead no contest, no points, and fine reduced from $143 to $40 +$13 court costs. I took it, but could have refused and taken my chance in court. Research the statues in MI on the state gov't. web site to make sure that the cop complied with the statute you are charged with. These aren't the brightest folks around so he may have dummied up on something in the ticket.
Good Luck

hey tundra, ran into cop at paint store today so i asked him about using lawers to fight speeding tickets and he said he hasn't seen that work since the 70s in this county. asked about trial by jury and he said no way for a cival infraction judge only[so much for the constitution]he also said because this sherrif deputy was on second shift and would get overtime he would probably look forward to several continuences. not what i was looking to hear .later

That cops full of caca. Houston ticket court has bunches of jury trials. I had one. The jury was out 45 minutes on my 85 in a 55. They found me guilty but only fined me $10.00 not the $200.00 (and only 3 pts instead of 6) the prosequoter asked for and what the fine was suppose to be. All my other tickets have been dismissed. The one I had to go to trial on was the worst cop in Houston. He has a reputation. He caught me in a comero in my Gen 1. By the time he caught up to me I was so far ahead i was almost off the freeway on the feeder. He had to lock it up and slide to make the exit. I thought it was funny, he didn't. Oh well. They are only 6 people jurys for civil.

Too bad about not being able to have a jury trial. I think you would do pretty well with a jury of your peers. I suspect however, it might be difficult for the county to find that many Lightning owners!

The $20 clause in the constitution applies to Federal crimes, so unless the FBI busted you on an interstate, you're outta luck there. As for getting the charge changed, I have just recently plead guilty to "improper use of powered equipment" paid some extra money and no points. Get a lawyer, money well spent.

hey all, talked to a lawer today actually several of them and they all said no trial by jury for cival traffic violations in michigan and that if the cop could prove his radar gun was in working order[current certification]i would lose even if i brought several witnesses and the best i could hope for would be the judge to lower it from 25 0ver to maybe 15 over if i had a lawer with me [500.00] 50/50 chance and the local lawer from this town i was in at the time said he new that deputy and he would show no matter how many continuences i got. and theres none of that change the infraction to somthing else stuff going on in michigan [should be] i think michigan must have turned to communism when i wasn't looking. later comrades
