Question PRO-M MAF QUESTION

This seems like a good product that many are adding with success. I thought I would investigate a group purchase however I have a question. Who is PRO-M? I see theses being sold by Houston Performance, Swanson & Best, but I need info on manufacturer. Are these guys buying the maf and adding the filter or is PRO-M selling the whole unit to the above resellers?

One thing to consider, if a chip has been installed and then later a PRO-M, I am certain the chip has to be re-burnt with PRO-M taken into account.

I think the chip manufacturers would charge $100.00 for the re-program.

Sal says no reburn is necessary when the PRO-M is added with his chip. Swanson say yes their chip needs mods. I don't know about Super Chip. I just sent PRO-M an email on a group purchase. Those buying throttle bodies and contemplating PRO-M recalibration, they charge from $100-$125 for a reburn including shipping. Maybe we can get a special for you guys who already have the PRO-M and have bought throttle bodies.

Noelvm,
give steve a call @ houston performance. He does group purchases for the mustang guys all the time. As far as buying direct from pro-m goes...my understanding is that they have a very steep buy-in. *dunno* though.

good luck.

Mike B.

oh and yes the pro-m you buy from shm, houston performance, or swanson are all the same.

Question

noelvm,

Are you saying that a Pro-M needs to be recalibrated if you change from a stock TB to a oval one? Why is this?

Thanks

Jeff,
the PRO-M measures air. It is calabrated to measure the air thru a stock TB. The aftermarket oval TB will flow a heck of a lot more air than the stock unit which is the reason to buy it. I don't think the Pro-M is calibrated for that much additional air flow; however, I did ask that specific queastion in my email to them.

noelvm,

I can answer that question for you then. No, you do not need to recalibrate your MAF.

i stopped by there yesterday didn't get a warm welcome although the owner was out of the office, they dont want to deal with direct sales like they use to, the secretary just wanted to send me down to ramchargers to purchase their product. they are by the way the people that created the mass air setup for the mustang and the 93-95 lightnings

Noel, the Pro-M does not need to be recalibrated for throttle body change. It is a meter and only measures air flow and its changes that are in front of it, not behind it. Some people say it needs to be recalibrated for a different air filter, but I don't think this is true either. Anyone know for sure?

Is it possible that the MAF may not be calibrated for the increased flow range that the single bore TB can deliver? In other words the TB may max out the MAF measurement range before the TB reaches max flow. Just a thought.

Just had to add my two cents to this. The Pro-M meter is an outstanding meter and the only thing that exceeds it is the caliber of the people that put this item together. The 80mm mass air meter is more meter then most of use will ever need. It is rated for an air flow that will support over 600 horsepower. This is one fine quality item.

Thanks BaBolt, you answered my question as to why everyone (including me) puts the 80 Pro-M MAF on the Lightnings and Pro-flow.com website states that a 77 Pro-M MAF is for a 99 Lightning.
