Will since the forum has been down I haven't been able to keep you guys up on Sunset Ford 1.Well the Service Writer calls me back and states that bring my L in Friday.(After I spent a couple of hour to find the star washer the correct size on Thursday) I get there and was informed that SVT states to just put a lock washer on it and this will do the same as the star. Not sure of this I'm not an Engr. So I told that if I want they will put the stars on so I wait, they call me and say it done. I take it home and have to leave for the weekend. Monday I went to the bank and returned home back into my drive and what do I hear CLUNK I crawl under the L and I can't see where they put the washer. I email the Gen. Manager because I'm so mad I don't want to say things I can't take back. Tuesday the Service Manager calls and tells me they put the WASHER in. I was thinking that if we all go to NHSC on this web site and start some writing that maybe Ford will get a Good fix for the problem. As the S.M. stated that for won't have a fix for this till 2002 model year. Ford states that there isn't very many people with the problem but if just one of us is killed or injuried that to many. Just like the Chevy and the gas tank lets not wait to long!!!!!

I agree with Super Chicken. If we all went to: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/hotline/
and registered our complaint regarding the front end clunk/bolt, maybe we will see Ford step up. It can't hurt.

Hey Jim how are you doing? I have got the clunk and want it fixed. Who is a good service tech (mechanic) at HB Ford or should I go someplace else? Let me know. Thanks.

HiGuys
I got the dreaded clunk also, and sure after looking my bolts moving too.
The star bolt does not do the trick I have tried, anyone fixed it 100% yet...

Nick D, I got the 100% fix as far as I can tell. See my post above. Part numbers are XL3Z-3078-BA and XL3Z-3079-BA for new lower control arms. Got four wheel alignment too although some members of this message say it is impossible to align the real wheels. But, not knowing their bona fides, I cannot verify. Its under warranty anyway, so who cares?

By the way, here in the States it took three weeks to get the parts and a week to get the fix scheduled.

My problems was the "clunk", an occasional very loud bang noise, excessive pulling to the right, lane hunting and darting senstaion. On the highway I had to have a death grip on the steering wheel. Now, after the fix, I can steer with just two fingers. Search some of my earlier posts under "redlite" for more information.

Also, this is the fix specified by SVT technical hotline for Ford dealers.

Thumbs up

dI have fixed mine and also a few for the ford dealer in this area. And have posted the MOST correct fix. Here it is again, yu have to remove the bolt and washer assm they are made together, and weld a washer to the frame that is the correct hole size,To gain the correct axis in relationship to the front you need to run a piece of drill rod though the front holes of the control arm and weld washers then. The problem is that the older pick ups used and essentrict[wrong spelling]and the hole was enlarged for that. It works but is time consuming.

Hi Ruslow
I don't think I should have to weld or make rods up for mine, it's down to fords to sort it properly

But first you have to get Ford,SVT and the dealership to agree on how to fix the problem. But before that the dealership has to see (hear) the problem. Ford hasn't put out recall or meno on the fix. then if you talk to SVT they just say put a washer in it. And that is a flat washer and loctite not a star washer. Then you have guys on the post that say replace the lower control arms. What we need is Ford to step up and and bite the bullit and fix it not just keep passing the buck.
