Angry Help - L. dying suddenly

Twice in the past two days the L. has suddenly died while just cruising down the road. It will re-start after about 30 seconds after two or three tries, and then it runs fine again. Haven't tried pulling the chip out yet, but it's not really acting like the chip is causing it. Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas? Thanks.

Check your innercooler fluid level. Mine stalled and wouldn't idle consistantly when the innercooler leaked and ruined the O2 sensors.

Jeff, thanks for the idea. I hadn't thought about cleaning the contacts again, but it's worth a try.

Moonshine,

Sounds like either a chip contact issue or a Fuel issue. I remember seeing posts about fuel pump problems a while back. The first thing I would do is take JagcLightning's advice and clean the chip contacts. I have Sals 4 way and it did what you described once when I was switching between programs. It seemed like it got stuck. Then it started...

Good Luck

PS Autothrottle and his Ram air showed me up again at Ennis on Friday. I have finally decided that I have tooo much torque to one foot the take off and mash the gas to the floor.

Doug, thanks for the tip. I recall some folks having the fuel problem, and that's what it feels like. However, as I recall the fuel problem was related to the pickup tube coming loose, and after it died there was no restrating it until the tube was reattached.

Moonshine:

If you have a chip of the same type as the Superchips, I would bet your chip is working loose. The bracket which attaches the PCM has to be straightened out where it contacts under the chip. Even with duct tape on the chip, this bracket will wedge your chip loose enough to cause an intermittant failure and stall you truck. This happened to me and several others on the board when we first got our SuperChips. Check it out, the bracket comes off with two screws and can be straightened in a vice.

Good Luck,

Lightning Bob

My chip is a PSP, and I did have that problem before I straightened the bracket. After I straightened the bracket, I've never had the chip move since. That's part of why I don't think it's chip related. Thanks for trying.

Moonshine, I had a similar problem when I initially installed my PSP chip, I had to keep taking it out and scraping the contact point until I finally got every single piece of the plastic off. It took about 4-5 tries doing this. If your chip has been in for awhile this may not be your problem but it sure sounds like some type of problem with the chip. Maybe some small piece of dirt or plastic worked its way into the contact point. I would really recommend cleaning off the chip agian. If it still persists, try taking the chip out (god forbid) and just run stock to see if it is something to do with the chip. Sal can be very hard to get a hold of but he normally responds pretty fast if you mention to him you are experiencing problems with the chip. Good luck, Jeff
