In cab P.C.

Im working on the interior of my L and also installing a car P.C. with touch screen. I have SCT pro and figured that it would be nice to not have a lap top flying around the cab. Has anyone installed one in there L. It will be built in to the console. Should be nice when I'm done. Here's a link to a place to get the parts. Thanks for any input.https://logisysus.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=99

I'd personally build my own Car PC.
Based off the VIA EPIA platform.
I twas built for fanless and small sized low power consumption areas, Plus its got plenty of power for anything you'd do in a car.

But I'm a hardware guru for computers.

I know this is a stretch but...

Could anyone put together a complete list of whats needed for a complete car PC? I'd like to do one but am computer illiterate with terminology.

So you guys are basically building pc's using the console instead of a case? I can safely say that I'd never have thought to do that. Do you guys use a micro-atx motherboard or are there special motherboards for this type of app? Either way, thinking of the custom work involved boggles my mind.

I used a Mini-ITX motherboard. It's about 6.5"X6.5". It's not hard to make one at all. I had NO computer experience at all and it was very simple to build one. If you got any questions shoot me a PM.

If I were to build one I'd make a custom enclosure with aluminum.

a motherboard like this is ideal:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813181020

its made for this purpose pretty much

A Slim small power supply such as this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817157005

You may look into a Powersupply for computers that can run off 12VDC but I don't know of any off hand , so you'd need an inverter and transformer to convert your car's 12VDC into 120V AC for the powersupply.

I'd look into a mini 7" LCD screen or so like these:
http://www.millertech.com/computer-lcds.htm
Run off 12VDC.

A laptop hardrive would be best such as this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148092
You'll need to mount the harddrive in a vibration isolation way (suspenses with industrial rubber bands for example.

Hard drives don't like hard bumps at all.

But if you're not to knowledgable on custom computer building or wiring, Those carmp3.com prebuilt systems use a lot of the same components I'm tlaking about and they're preassembled, for a good price such as:

I know how to build a computer, that's a no-brainer. Where/how do you mount the screen/usb/optical drives/etc so they're accessible?
