WA 2 FST,
I noticed you also had a PSP inlet tube/ filter kit. This optimizes your results with the PSP chip, would it not? Could it be possible that you would have different numbers given a different air flow? Just curious.

Why the red face?

Like I said before, I'm not trying to start a chip war here. I ran 13.20 with the Superchip and the PSP inlet tube/filter kit on the truck. That should speak volumes for the Superchip/PSP filter combo, IMO. I just posted the _quantitative_ results I found today. I'll go as far to say that this is what I found on MY truck and that other trucks may perform differently. How's that for diplomacy? I just want to make my intentions clear for posting in the first place.

If the PSP chip takes advantage of the extra air and the Superchip doesn't, then so be it.

I've posted before that stock the truck ran 13.95 in less than excellent conditions. On the same day with the Superchip as the ONLY mod, the truck ran 13.65. I'd say that is very good.

FWIW, the PSP chip is just the standard program for '99s...whether you have the PSP inlet tube/filter kit or not, this is the chip you would get. In my unprofessional opinion, I'd say the chip isn't optimized just for the PSP tube/filter kit.

I'm going to guess that in the same air I ran the 13.20/103, I will run 13.0x with the PSP chip...on stock F1s.

Both chips are good, I think. Either is a vast improvement over stock...not just HP, but also driveability and shift quality. Part throttle and WOT performance are improved with both. I've driven around long enough with each chip to know that either is worth the $$.

You raise a good question...I just don't see how _that_ little extra airflow could make one chip superior to another.

Hey wes!
Great post, nice numbers. One of our members is getting a new PSP chip and he has used my SC backup before so when he gets his I am going to try it with the NX setup I have. I have been hearing alot about ping lately with the PSP setup, and this is something I have never experienced with any of the SC chips I have had. Seems a little odd with the PSP running richer than the SC for it to ping. I have also re-gapped all my plugs to .046 way back when and this could explain the no ping. I still want to try a full blown all out race chip from PSP with the NX kit. Even more so now that you have show better performance with the PSP. Hey, again thanks and I will see you in September at Hallisville Raceway.

Hey Andre,

The _only_ time there is any light pinging with the PSP chip is under very light loads. For instance...trans in overdrive, speed at 45mph, and you tip into the throttle. There is no load on the motor, cylinder pressures are not high. If I give it enough gas so that the trans downshifts into 3rd, the motor is now under load, and the slight pinging goes away. My guess is that there is just a tad too much low load timing advance.

WOT, there is no detonation and like I mentioned, the A/F ratio looks good and conservative to keep the motor happy and healthy.

Kevin, check the archives for info about PSP, and you can draw your own conclusions.

Thumbs up

WA 2 FST,
I had no idea what you were talking about "why the red face?" until I looked up at my message and saw it there. I never clicked on it, I guess it just appeared. Sorry about that. The last thing I want to do is see a hundred flaming posts.
