Post Question from a newbee

I hope a LS1 GM guy can get a good welcome here. I rode in a Lightning today. I was impressed at the low end grunt on this beast. My question is.... Why can't Ford put this drivetrain in the Mustang??? I mean the 4.6 in the GT and Cobra are a sad excuse for a stock setup.

Well The motor is so heavy as it is right now with no modification done to it, The car would not handle a road course that well, maybe not even handle well at all on the street. If you take some of the weight off the motor, then i could see it. But then the wouldnt do it becuase its not a parts car anymore, due to the deffernt block or what ever they changed. Also the suspension has to be altard for the motor to fit as does the steering system. I would personaly like to see a motor like this with some weight off of it in a mustang with a t56 trany,a nd a great road course suspession and gearing in it. I would say bye byue to the L for it(have to think hard). If i ever get the chance to build one i would do it aswell. Just my .02

in addition, it won't fit without notching the shock towers as its too wide to drop in.

The L engine is way too tall and wouldn't fit under a mustang hood. I'm also wondering how they'ld fit the SuperDuty Diesel trans in it too. BIG, HEAVY, VERY POWERFUL our motors are. Yippie!

I thought they did put this kind of power in a mustang called the "COBRA R" built specifically to race.

Cobra R is a different engine.

The Cobra Jet (one with the L engine in it) was said to be a dog on handling and a b*tch to get traction on.
