I believe that SilverBullet bought a air/fuel gauge, but I don't know if he has it in yet.

Question

hey guys, i tried installing the a/f guage,
and i remember someone saying something about 2 white wires, grey, and blank. i found the o-sensor to the left of the oil filter. i hooked up the white whire to the a/f guage lead. when i turned the truck on, the lights did alternate between rich and lean, but didnt change as i drove. did i use the wrong set of wires? any input from those who have done this would be appreciated.

thanks.

I will try and post the wires you need to tap into at the ECC. Look for it Monday.
I haven't done mine yet, but I have done my research.

Here are my thoughts on these gauges.

The O2 sensors in all modern cars (there are about 3-4 exceptions) go from 0 to 1 volt. They are not linear. This means that a 10% change in voltage is not a 10% change in A/F ratio. The production HEGO's are not designed to read anything but 14.64 A/F (for the non CA people). To try to distinguish between 12:1 and 11:1 A/F ratio is about .05 volts. These sensors aren't accurate enough to pick that up reliably. They can certainly tell you if it's too lean (>14.0), but anything beyond that, I'd be very leary of what you do with the readings.

You need to hook the wire from the gauge to the black wire on the drivers side o2 sensor. You will have to be careful stripping back the insulation over the wire. Other than that it is fairly easy to install, hope this helps.

Question

Tom, how's the gauge working now?

Was it worth $ or not?

I was going to get one but was not sure of the accuracy.

hi,

i got it in, and it was the black wire. works fine as far as i can tell. i wouldn't be able to tell you the accuracy of it. but i'm a sucker for flashy lights, and the meter looks like kitt from knight rider. since it only cost $50, i decided to get one. and anyways i needed to fill up the second hole in my pod. if you'd like a pic, i could send you one directly. just let me know.

Thanks for the info Tom.

I quess I was curious if the thing was always stuck on rich. By the way my pipe's look(BLACK) all the time, figured the gauge would be rich all the time.

i don't know how to post online, but i can take a pic and send it to you if you'd like. autometer makes it, and it's their phantom series, so it matches the phantom booat guage i have. send me your email and i send you a pic as soon as i take one tommorrow.
