Tell the inspector that you have the exact part number of muffler that was on Ted Kennedys Oldsmobile, the night he killed Mary Jo Kopeckne, and he got away with it. I mean the annual inspection.

off topic a bit but any out of state mass guys, go to www.waaf.com and look for the looney tunes songs they have. There are some funny funny songs about ted kennedy that they did.

Hey, I lived tehre for 10 years. Everything about the commonwealth is crazy.

Yearly inspections are also crazy. I was lucky to find a small wrench shop that wouldn't be **** about my 99 lightning

 

You think MASS inspections are tough? Try going to get your car inspected in the Garden State (NJ) where the inspection stations are state-run and a state DOMV trooper physically takes your car through the inspection. Or at least that's the way it was when I lived there.

I'll never forget trying to get my 64 corvette thru the process. Aside from a full-race engine, it had a thunderbolt hood (lift-off), and dump tubes from the headers. B***ards failed me and made me weld the plates on, plus put the stock hood back, then re-align the headlights (pointing up). The headlights I had no problem with... I actually could see better at night street races !

But the day after the car passed the welds were ground off and the hood went back on. The guy asked me about the exhaust (loudness) and I said the mufflers were OEM (NOT) and they were so hot he wasn't about to examine too closely. They were the infamous Smitty Glas-Paks 2.500" ID I/E and the case was 4.500" in diameter, about 20" long. Yeah... it was very loud.

Years ago guys would stuff steel wool into the exhaust tips and lock it in place with a drilled thru screw/nut. Whatever works, but $50 works for me!

50bucks or so cheap muffler sould take care of it or just move to indiana and run stright pipes and no one will bother you
