Boy, is California **** or what. Why would anybody want to live in a place like that. Of course you realize that as the holder of the modern day Sodom (SF) and Gomorra (LA), when the big quake comes the Lord is going to make beach front property out of Arizona.

Excuse me while I put on my fire proof suit.

Cool

That's what the law says in CA, but it generally isn't enforced. I have not had a front plate on my vehicle since 1984, and have never been stopped for it. Occasionally some municipality decides it is going to enforce the law, so I try to avoid them. I read, for example, that they were going to enforce the law in West Hollywood a while back, but I never have occasion to go there so I don't sweat it. Closer by, the great town of Port Hueneme decided it was going to enforce it a while back, but I think they dropped that idea since someone observed that most of the private vehicles in the police department parking lot lacked front plates. Its not an issue I lose any sleep over.

My neighbor got a ticket for no front plate while her car was parked n the City of Chicago. Cost was only $20. Didn't suprise me none, on 3 seperate occasions they've written to tell me about unpaid parking tickets to the tune of about $75 each that I never got as I was not there at the time. They pronounce you guilty, and it is he!! to prove them wrong. They will do anything to make a buck. They even worked out a deal with the state here to suspend your license if you don't pay the tickets you never really got or deserved. Stay out of Chicago, I do.
Done ranting,

Thumbs up

Noel, BTT just for the purpose of highlighting your post and starting a much needed flame war. It's been too slow around here. Good job, though. Couldn't agree more.

Hey Guys- Just a note to tell you an EASY way to attach a front plate on your L.
I live in Fl. and they don't require a front plate except in my case where the State issued me a DV Plate (disabled veteran) which must be on both ends of the vehicle.
When I picked up my L the dealer had a front licence plate kit (containing a plate frame, big bracket and screws) on the floor of my L. I thought it was std. equiptment. Tha metal bracket, bent at a 45 degree angle, and mounts the plate just below the i/c opening, centering it, without drilling any holes in the bumper cover face and attach it to the cover from underneath.
Looks professioal enough.
Ask your local dealer or parts dept. for the kit. It's worth it for that stealth look.

Unfortunately, it’s state law in Texas that you MUST display a front tag. You can “display” it from your dash, if you wish. Police will definitely pull you over for this one, if for nothing else than to check you out.

Ever wondered why the powers that be are so adamant about having a front tag?

The very best reflector of radar/laser energy is your license plates and headlight assemblies!

Skyhook, actually the front plate is only a very small part of the radar signature. It is the "Reflective frontal area" which consist of the entire front of your vehicle especially the windshield.

skyhawk,

Texas Traffic code states the following:

502.404
A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle

The dash won't sub for the front of the vehicle.....You will probably get away with it, and its very rare someone gets written up for it here in San Antonio..its a 110 fine here.....I got stopped 23 years ago for it by DPS....WARNING ONLY...Good luck guys....Dave

I was pulled over by a State Trooper in Jacksboro, but got off with a warning. There are tons of vehicles on the road up here without front plates. Okies aren't required to have them. Seems kind of unfair to me.

Been pulled over for it three times SVT-SNAKE and haven't got a ticket yet.

Its illegal in Colorado, however if you play dumb like you didn't know or say the dealer never gave you one then you should be OK.

I would pay the fine before I would drill my bumper.

Arrow

I was on my way to Houston last fall when my detector goes nuts. So, I slow it to the speed limit and see a cop absolutely flying in the other direction on the hwy. Next thing I know, I see in my rearview that he's bouncing across the median, lights flashing. At this point I was totally confused because I know I'm going the speed limit and I'm in the far right lane. Sure enough, he pulls up behind me and pulls me over. Gives me a warning for not having a front plate after doing a total walk-around of the truck. Hmm.
