check out new issue MM&FF
the guys @ Muscle Mustang & Fast Fords just received a 99 "L" from ford to have for a while. Bone stock it ripped off a 13.3 @101 mph also pulled a 1.90 60ft!!!! It then followed up it with another 13.3 @ 102!!! He made a few more passes, but as the day wore on the track conditions (weather, traction etc..) got worse & ended up running high 13's (BTW they did ice down the intake for al the runs). They (guys @ MMFF) will be getting some 5.4 heads ported (cool) & then they mentioned a new intake (from the 2001) & a larger intercooler (2001) will be put on in the future. Good article on it. The build up of this truck should be very good, since they dyno & track test everything they can get their hands on for vehicles!!!

Thats Evan Smith (the editior) that purchased the lightning. He is also known for owning and driving project stocker. He does have one quick L from the get go, being at Englishtown doesn't hurt either.
Sept. '00 issue.
Also, realize that when they get to test vehicles they typically get to rent the track. It's prepped to their liking before _every_ pass, if need be. As Spiro pointed out, they race at an excellent track (fast) as well.
Evan is an outstanding driver, but it takes less refinement of skills to drive an automatic trans-equipped vehicle. He is an incredible power shifter when it comes to stick cars, though.
I don't think the truck is a ringer. They got a perfect track, admittedly perfect air conditions (until the last few runs when the air got muggy), and have the luxury of taking as much or as little time in b/w runs as they wanted. Icing it down right in front of the burn box is an added plus that would get most of us kicked off the track.
Take it FWIW. I do agree that it will be great to see what they dig up as far as performance-enhancing mods. They're not afraid to try things, so it will be fun to read of their progress.

Wes, you got that right..Evan Smith is one heck of a driver, It will be interesting to see what they do next. I wonder if they will spend the money for a Bassani system, or chip, or gears....
Like you said, they will try anything, now if Evan will only put me in the magazine..lol
