Post CLUNK ?

I have read all the past posts about the clunk and I reall only have one question. Why is it only the drivers side control arm is there only evidence of movement. The passenger side shows no wear on mine what so ever. Is it just a defect on the drivers side control arm only or will it eventually happen to both? Ford deffinatly needs to do some thing. my truck only has 350 miles on it and all the paint is gone on the right side, as well as the annoying sound it makes. did the star washer make any difference for the people who had the "fix" done or did it just come back. taking the truck in for that and an annoying exhaust rattle that only happens if 2 people are in the truck. I am sure both will be no problem found.

Only the drivers side has a oval shaped hole in the control arm. This is not a passenger side issue.

Regarding your exhaust rattle with two people in the truck, I can say I'm very familiar with it. Having looked at different L's on the lot to see what the exhaust tip location was like I now understand the issue.

Ford does not spend a lot of time lining up the exhaust system and there is much room for error. Get the truck on the hoist and have a tech try feel the gap between the muffler and the floor of the truck. Right above the muffler is a lip or seam if you will that is very close to the top front of the muffler. You need to get them to loosen the exhaust back at the cats and then heat the muffler hangers and lower the muffler. We're only talking 1/4" or less. The weight in the passenger seat is enough to sag the floor and make contact.

Hope this helps. Been through it myself trying to raise the exhaust tips in the cut-out a little bit.

WHAT04, coincidentally today I saw something similar to what you where talking about. Two Lightnings on the Dealers lot parked one in front of the other. It was very obvious that the exhaust tips where extended out differently on each truck. Maybe the difference was about an inch. Don't know why though.

You're Welcome.

Forgot to follow up on the star washer fix. Had mine done and paint applied over the scratching. 3800 miles later and still no movement or noise.

I called SVT about the clunk issue and complained that some of the star washers on some Lighnings did not fix the noise. The guy at SVT said to have the dealer call Jack Doss on the Tech Hot Line.I hope this works!

Cool

My SVT dealership (Bayshore Ford Trucks, New Castle, DE) is replacing my control arm on 19 July. They had breaker bars and two guys on both control arms bolts and as soon as they backed the 'Bolt off the lift, "POP"! So far the dealership seems to be very accomodating.

If I get the fix of the clunk problem by replacing the lower control arms, do I have to go to an SVT dealer or can any ford dealer handle this simple fix. I have no SVT dealer in my area. thanks
