WANTED: Black L via X plan
Thanks to all those who have provided me with leads. I'll be making a few calls on Monday morning.
I didn't understand that the "deal" from Cotton Ford included the delivery, but, I wouldn't have done that anyway as I would not feel comfortable spending 30K for a truck that I have never seen. (there are several "new Ls" at dealerships here in KC that I would not have accepted..door dinges, scratches, cracked front spoilers etc).
As for the additional comments and opinions that were provided....I can appreciate that everyone has their own viewpoints, and, I am in total agreement that people should be able to voice their opinion. Just so all of you know....I have been monitoring this board for months, and I have become excited about this product, but, my position is this....When I started considering a purchase of an L back in march, I decided that, I have other vechiles and don't really "need" an extra truck, BUT "IF" I could get one for around invoice I could justify it.
Everyones has their own levels of desires for things. My level is that if I can get a deal on one I'll buy one(1K below invoice isn't a deal to "me"). If I can't get a deal on one then I'll just have to continue to say "WOW, look at that cool truck" as I see them going down the road !!!
My "opinion" on the price and the production...SVT should produce more..then the public won't be price gouged. You can say all day that with limited production the resale value will be higher....well, I say that with limited production you have to pay more up front...which ties up more of your money that could be used for other things in life. AND, since SVT didn't produce the cobra this year I feel that SVT dealers should get some of their franchise fee refunded.(which they may have already but they just aren't telling consumers that so they can justify MSRP or higher). I find it hard to believe that Ford corporate would not compensate the dealers somehow.
The Lightning is a great truck..and I hope to own one someday. Regardless, when I see one on the road you will be sure to get a thumbs up from me !!!!
Happy motoring !!!

One more opinion.....
Ford needs to address their policy on dealership participation in the A,X,Z plan etc. They need to make it mandatory. What good is a Vechicle Purchase Program if dealerships have the option to say "NO we dont participate". Ford should set the program up so that the dealership is compensated the same for each vehicle sold, regardless if it's limited production or not. A sale of this nature shouldn't effect the dealerships allotment etc unless it was to the benefit of the dealership.
And, if SVT produced more lightnings then dealerships could spread their franchise fees out across several vehicles..instead of having to recover the fee on just a handful.
Its the same old "pricing" story....Supply and Demand.
Ford could easily define a different channel for people with privilages to purchase vehicles. All Ford would have to do is set it up so that the member with the benefit calls the A,X,Z plan 800 number, orders the vehicle, and selects the dealership that they want it delivered to. Ford could build a "vehicle handling fee" into each vehicle ordered/sold which would go to the dealership.
This would simplify the program and ensure
the right for the employee to actually "use" the benefit.
I think that its BS that an employee has to search and then travel several hundred miles to use a benefit !!!! and usually because dealerships are too damn greedy. If the dealership was compensated the same for each vehicle it would eliminate the participation and pricing problems.
Vehicles that are in stock would be even easier....the employee would pay X amount, and the dealership would get the handling fee.
FYI..I was told that the dealership makes more money in the end on an A plan purchase than an X plan. What moron set that pricing up ? I think the dealership should get the same...regardless. Simple, quick, DONE !!!
Sorry to vent...I'm just a little PO'ed as I have my pin number and I can't find a dealership that will allow me to use it.

I think that you may have misunderstood what I meant...all I'm saying is that...If you have a benefit, you should be able to "use it" and you shouldn't be subject to some "Sales Manager" at a dealership saying "Oh NO, we can't honor your A,X,Z plan....you will have to go search the country for a participating dealer".
If you/people paid MSRP that was your/their choice. I personally would like to be able to use the benefit. What good are benefits if you can't use them ? I don't think that a dealership should have veto power. If they agree to be a Ford dealership then they should have to adhere to the rules and regulations...that I feel Ford is in need of reviewing.

I have to agree with Want One in this case.
I would not take delivery site unseen now that i think about it. I didn't in my case. I examined every inch of my truck and drove it around before I agreed to buy it. I also was in the position of not needing the truck. My Lexus was just fine all things considered. That said, I was willing to pay list for the L as I felt it was worth it. However, I would never pay over list for any vehicle. Supply and demand for something like a car doesn't make sense to me. With that said, there are hardly any vehicles I would even pay list for. For Want One this is the case with the L, and that is a perfectly valid viewpint. Hang in there Want One. You'll get what you want sooner or later. Bravo for not giving in to impulse over something you don't NEED. Wish I was that strong sometimes.

Hey SPIRO99SVT...I agree that 1K under MSRP would be a pretty good deal to the average person without a ford purchase plan benefit. BUT, like I have said...I feel that I should be able to use my benefit...and a dealership should honor the plans extended to employees by Ford.
As for the trailer to the door....that sounds appealing at first thought, BUT I have seen way too many vehicles on dealership lots that are far from perfect. I'm sure that most would agree that a 30K investment warrants a personal inspection of a potential vehicle.
Also...isn't DE one of those states that you don't have to pay sales tax on vehicles ?
AND, lets not forget that MSRP stand for Manufactures "suggested" retail price.
Bottom line...I just wanna use my benefit just like anyone else would want to...limited production or not. Besides if the L is so popular and in demand...they should make more of them...it's pretty obvious that they would sell'em.
Just my .02 worth.

Want one,
Just like the Airlines.. Full Fares Go First
This should not be hard to understand.
Had my Lightning 15 months, paid MSRP. After a week I told salesman I thought they were the best value going. Still think the same.

I would agree, your just looking to get the best deal possible. I was lucky to have purchased mine for 29995.00 with NO TAX in Delaware. Some would say thats a great deal..
Good Luck finding that Black L.

Hey 4D THNDR,
My one word is "Equality". All employees should have the right to use their benefits. I have read here on this website that many employees in the Detroit area have been able to use there benefit...yet in other areas of the country people can not. I feel that that is not right and that Ford should step in and mandate a policy that dealerships should have to adhere to..every dealership..and not at the dealerships discretion !!!
As for the comment from Reality1,
I use to work for a major airline...and I had "flight benefits". I have been in almost every airport in the country. I can't remember one ticket agent every saying to me "Oh, you can't use your flight benefits at this airport". My flight benefit was available to me at every airport...and the station manager couldn't come out and say "You can't fly out of here using your employee pass...but I will sell you a FULL FARE ticket if you want to get back home !!!
I'll keep looking for an L...hopefully I'll find one. If not, oh well !!!

I agree with Want One that all dealerships should have to honor the a, x, or whatever plan. If they don't want to include the SVT products, they should state that up front. However, I don't think the SVT products should be included in the special plans, unless there is a franchise fee appended to the plan.
Personally, if I'm in the market for a vehicle (other than limited production), and the dealer isn't willing to work close to invoice, then I'll go elsewhere. So the x plan isn't really hurting the dealer at all. I realize the reluctance of the dealer to sell a L on a special plan, but I've also seen this happen on other vehicles that just happened to be hot sellers at the time.
NONETHELESS,
If I was still waiting on a deal on a L, I would have missed a month worth of fun.
