G-Tech help
Has anyone one used the G-Tech to measure horsepower? I ran the truck last April when I first got it and it showed 335 hp. Ran it yeserday and only got 305. Does the ambient temperature effect the calculated hp (I would guess so) and does traction affect hp calculation (truck was fishtailing through 1st gear)?
Also, does anyone have the operating instructions for the G-Tech scanned and can you send me a copy? Thanks

Did you remember to set your correct truck wieght before you did your horsepower runs. Did you run through all the gears full on?
The fish tailing should have no effect on Max HP reading. I'll look for my book for the G-tech.

The G-Tech measures everything by using g-forces due to acceleration, so if your wheels are spinning it will affect your reading. Need to get a clean run to get the best results.

Thanks for the info. I made the runs to just past the 2-3 shift. Is this enough?
If you can find the manual and send me a copy of it, I would appreciate it. Thanks again.

You would need to run the truck all the way through the quarter to get an accurate measurement of hp. It would compute hp by quarter mile time and truck weight. Therefore the quicker you run the more hp it will show. Sorry I cant find my instructions either.
Here are the instructions:
1. Turn G-TECH/Pro on
2. Take it off the bracket
3. Get into Acceleration mode
4. Turn the switch to left position
5. G-TECH/Pro blinks P 0
6. Input vehicle weight in pounds
7. Put it back on the bracket
8. Position it horozontally
9. Get ready to start accelerating
10. Push the button
11. G-TECH/Pro zeroes out
12. - GO - is displayed
13. Start accelerating
14. G-TECH/Pro starts displaying HP
15. Go through the gears (up to redline)
16. To end measurement slow down
17. G-TECH/Pro blinks Maximum HP
The instruction that confuses me is #15. If you go through all the gears up to redline on an L. you are going to be going pretty damned fast. However, footnote 4 says "Most likely your maximum horsepower will be delivered in lower gears.... Drag will play considerable effect in higher gears (sic). Additionally, peak horsepower resides close to redline, so make sure you get there in RPM." To me this implies that you are going to get your highest reading in first or second gear, so why bother to take it any higher. If I were going to do it I think I would try a couple of techniques- a) start in first and mash it til the rev limiter cuts in, and b) start in drive and manually shift to 2nd right after the one-two shift and keep it there til the rev limiter cuts in. Let us know if any of this works for you, Black.
