Just bought an '01 L!

Just picked up a bone stock 39K mile red '01 Lightning. This is my first one and I absolutely love it. I've always wanted a GEN II since they came out in '99. Anyone know where to get a good deal on a Bassani cat-back?

Gratz on the new edition to the family!

Bassani is garbage! They are over priced and too quiet.

If you want something that will sound incredible you should get either the

Magnaflow cat back system from Dynatech

or

Silverbullet from JDM.

I was on the fence for a long time trying to make a decsion on either, borla, jba, kooks, bassani, JDM & Dynatech. I was going for headers as well.

if you call john G at dynatech and tell him that Bill White II (Black 01' Lighting) sent you he will take care of ya. Here are some of the links on cat backs, saving you some time.

If you ever need anything, just feel free to ask bud!
Some of the first things people do is typcially get a CAI (Cold Air Intake) Gives ya few horse power. Throttle body isn't really needed at the point your at, but always nice to have. Shackles will make it look good, I recommend JLP 4" will do a great job for you. If you plan on racing it, traction bars and some drag radials are always a good way to go. You might want to start off with a 4# or 6# lower, CAI your catbacks. Just make sure you get a good tune and it doesn't run FAT!!
Those few mods will make a very very nice improvement and wont really kill ya in the wallet.

i have the bassani headerback on my 03 lightning..i love the sound. There clamps suck though, i lost my cat back twice while racing .I bought some 3 inch wide band clamps that solved that problem. (yes i could have had it welded, but it voids the warranty, so i didnt) I have had them for 2 years now, and they dont look very good, and i store the truck winters. If i was to do it all over again i would have gone with the dynatech t304 stainless headerback.

If you don't mind a heavy drown and don't do much long haul driving the Silver Bullet cant be beat for sound and volume. I have it on my 01 red L. But I just got the Bassani Cat back system SS system up here in the north east you have to use stainless. But down were you are I'm sure the reg system would work fine. Mark at LFP is a good guy and I had my system from TX to NY in 4 days!! His price was the best also by a good amount!! Welcome and enjoy your truck!! Artie

Welcome to the board.

Check your plugs the first chance you get. The 99-02's can spit plugs.

I have a Bassani BX catback but if I did it again, I would get a single muffler Magnaflow catback. It's about $400, stainless steel, and has a little more growl than the Bassani but it won't drive you nuts on the highway.

Congrats on your Lightning, you think you love it now,it only get's better!! And PLEASE do yourself a favor and Definitely buy a Bassani Catback, they are by far the best sounding system for our trucks. And when you add on a Bassani High Flow catted Mid Pipe, OOOOOOWWWWEEEEEEEE Does it sound GOOD then!!! All you have to do is a search on here about Catbacks, and you'll see that the Biggest majority of Lightning owners run Bassani catbacks, and LOVE them!! I have a Bassani Stainless Steel Catback i bought from ChickenEars, and it still looks just like it did when i bought it 3 years ago.And from what i've seen, and heard from other Lightning owners who went with other systems, they end up discolored or rusting pretty quick.

Your out of your mind if you think Bassani sounds good. Just because everyone has them, doesn't make them the best sounding exhaust. I personally do not want a truck that just purrs a little louder then stock.

You should get what you think sounds the best, not what everyone else does. Magaflow by Dynatech is in my opinion the best sounding. Later on this evening if you want, I will take a few clips so you can hear it at an idle and then ill go for a quick spin and let ya hear it at WOT if you want to check out magnaflow.

Just remember, Mine will sound a little louder because I have dynatech headers and high flow cats!

Which is exactly why listening to it would be a waste of time. Headers and high flows totally changes the end product. Get the Bassani. You will not be disappointed unless you want that raw glass pack noise.

Thanks for all the input guys! This truck kicks *** and I can't wait to add some mods to it. I know that their are a ton of different exhaust companies out there and I really appreciate everyone's opinion on their favorite. I am still trying to decide as I want to choose the best performing and sounding one possible. I'll then move onto a intake system, larger mass air meter, single blade throttle body to get it breathing better. Then I plan on some sort of hand held tuner. I run a diablo predator on my '05 Mustang GT and I've had great results. Take it easy guys....

Sounds like you have good taste in automobiles. I'm sure you'll make the best choice for your Lightning.
What exhaust are you running on your GT?
