My gas gauge must be defective, too, it goes down MUCH faster than the one in my Honda did.

For those wondering about the gauge after filling. These fuel gauges are electronicly dampend. If you fill the tank with the key on the computer interprets the increase as fuel slosh and doesn't move the gauge. It should respond afeter about 20 miles. Same holds true if the key is off only a shorts time (like if you only put a few gallons in). This doesn't explain CA's problem though. CA try this-> You can directly monitor the sending unit and ignore the gauge by holding the trip reset button down with the ignition off, then turn the ignition on. Keep holding the button down until the gauges do the full sweep test (watch your fuel gauge for full sweep test too). You are now in the diagnostic mode in the display. push the trip button to cycle thru various things. You can cycle thru as many times as you like. You can start the engine and still be in this mode. You will find a "fuel" readout in the odometer display with values from 255 (full, mine only gets to about 235 when full), down to 0 (the lowest reading I have seen is 22, almost completely empty). To return to normal display shut off motor or hold the trip button down again. Good luck.

The only thing that I can throw in this thread is that I took my L as low as I ever had (gas) yesterday just above the E. After a full fill up it took 21 gallons, pretty close to the gauge. 25 gallons is max correct?

Since I had an appointment to get the truck in already and since the gas gauge stopped working altogether *constant bouncing needle* I decided to let them trouble shoot it. They have my truck for the weekend, which means I am missing it, but I told them I wanted to go camping and they gave me a 00 F150 4x4 with an extended cab and long bed. So there is an upside, even if it is a DOG. 100MPH down University just isn't as much fun in this rig as it is in the Lightning huh Wells. hehe In light of recent events surrounding Eric's truck at Courtesy Ford here I made sure to talk to a buddy at my dealership and clarify, *Okay, I brought the truck in with NO SCRATCHES and I will bring her home with NO SCRATCHES and since we have had this conversation there is no way that you can tell me, well, maybe those were there when you brought it in* CYA right? Anyway, I'll let you know when I know what the deal was.

Christy Ann

Are you going camping in Earlville, Iowa?
It's bracket racing, so you don't need your L. Have a good weekend.

Okay, one more time...

So I took it in and they gave me that monster truck. We took it out to Leadville to go camping at Turquoise Lake for the weekend and when I brought it back *800 miles and 3 days later* the dealership had pulled the brakes to fix the squealing, they had fixed the rattle in the window, they had aligned her and they replaced the fuel tank sender which was apparently causing the problem. They tried to charge me for pulling the brakes and admitted that the noise could have been caused by the mess that the improperly installed rear seal made so after going back and forth they understood I was not paying. So that was on Monday. Here it is Wednesday and yesterday on my way home for work I looked down and yep, damned if the gas gauge no longer MOVES, let alone works. SO once again, back to the dealership tomorrow morning. Told them I HAD to have it back by Saturday because of the show on Sunday. We'll see. I don't feel nearly as bad for the extra miles I put on that other truck. That thing was interesting. Over washboard I swear the cab went one way and the bed the opposite. Crazy. I just want my baby to work. *Sigh*

BTW 98 thanks for the advice

and Bob, doesn't look like I am going to make Iowa hehehe

Thanks CA. We know know that the gas gage problem you and my wife are having is not the sender unit. I'm betting wiring and ground. Hopefully they will find it this time so I can take my wifes in with your posts. Come on down to Houston, when it cools off, and race with some of us ole boys. We cut a few .50 lites every once in awhile.

Christy;

We missed you in Iowa. Even though the weather was hot and humid, Reality1 was running 13.2's, I ran a couple of 13.5's, and Baby Jake broke into and consistently ran in the 13.6's. Jim won $40 or getting into the last 5 racers in the sportsmans class. It was a lot of fun. We have to plan another outing for later in the fall. TriState Raceway is one of only three all concrete dragstrips in the United States and is great for low ET's. Maybe you can make the next one if we let you know about it sooner. Sorry to hear your little girl and you dealership are giving you trouble.
