Question Transmission Question

Does anyone else have the problem of the transmission doing a double shift when it is stomped going 80 mph or above?

The truck down shifts, the RPM climb to just above 4,000 (about 1-2 seconds) then shifts up, then shifts down again and holds the gear until 5,000 RPM.

This is really aggravating. The dealer already said that they would not drive it above 70 mph.

The problem does not occur until 80 mph.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, mine does something similar to this, although I've never measured it via RPM's. I just figured it had something to do with how I was pressing the throttle, and I wouldn't say it is consistant.

You realize that SVT will recommend that speeds above 70 mph are against the law?!?

WHAT04,

I was also thinking that it is the way I press the throttle. If I ease into it, then the double shift will not happen. It only happens when I stomp it fast.

Have you experimented with this?

Have you brought this subject up with the dealer.

I would like to know how many other people have this problem.

Thanks for the input.

I have a '93 L and that happens for me as well. It seems like it downshifts when I really flog it and then shifts back up for a couple of seconds.

I think I'm gonna go to the local community college and take some auto shop classes

I have not experimented with this and no, I will not be bringing it up with my dealer. I already had the tranny replaced and I am happy for now.

I don't see it as a big problem. I'm sure it's a programming issue. (in my opinion, there is WAY TOO MUCH computer involvement in the transmission)

TVW,

Thanks for the info. I will ask them to do as you said.

Lstorm,

Your dealer can troubleshoot under near actual conditions with good safety margins by performing the shift testing on a chassis dyno. If they refuse this simple solution, get another dealer and/or escalate this with SVT. Lightning was specifically built to possess high performance, so FOMOCO/dealer testing and maintenance should match!
