Talking Had fun running a Honda (motorcycle)

Lined up with a new Honda Valkarie (SP) that was toying with other cars earlier. Must of suprised the hell out of the guy as the light went green. He was playing catch up till 70 when we shut them down. The closest he got was at my door during his 1-2 shift (front end really floated up) and I began pulling harder after that. I myself have a 91 Suzuki GSX 1100G and have always wanted to run something challenging. I didn't think the L would fare so well against a bike (no clue how quick it is). I don't know how good a rider he was, but we both ended with thumbs up. Good experience!

Agree with the BBQ man. I have run my Valk against some serious (non bike) competition, and never had anyone stay even close. I can take that beautiful beast off the line unbelieveably fast, and as pointed out they run in the 3's 0-60 stock. Mine is close to stock with two Brothers Racing 6 into 6 exhaust system, and K&N filter.

Preliminary reports from the cycle press have the new Kawasaki ZX-12R doing sub 10 quarters and topping out at over 200 mph, stock. Its mission in life is to dethrone the Suzuki Hayabasa, which is in the very high 9's/low 10's and tops out at 190+ (depending on the magazine). I think these bikes do 140+ at the end of the quarter. Basically, any good, well ridden 600cc jap sport bike will rip your L a new one if your not careful.

I love Fords, fast pickups and supercharged V-8s, but those fast bikes will really scoot. Personally, I'd rather dodge trees on my dirt bike at 20 mph for six hours than pedestrians and minivans at 200 mph for six seconds, but thats just me.

gotta agree with dirt bike. i have one of those little 600 rockets. haven't seen any lightenings lately but stangs and the like get eaten very quickly.
the only bad part is when the front gets light at the wrong time. had mine come up at 110. whew what a ride. top end on mine is very close to 160 and it gets there as fast as i can twist and shift. no qtr times just street fun rides.

Moveover - you're right, 160 is where the good 750's hang out. In WildChild's defense, motorcycle speedos are usually very optimistic above 100 mph. Figure his reads 10% fast. 145 is doable for a good 600. As far as a light front end at 100, with a little help from a bump or crest in the road while approaching torque peak in 4th gear, its possible.

The good 600's are under 12 seconds in the quarter nowadays. However, sport bikes have pretty bad aerodynamics compared to cars. Add that to the rider's pucker factor when going 130+ and the ultra fast cars will reel in the 600cc sport bikes on the top end.

In my experience, well driven sports cars will usually hang with or beat the bikes on the twisty roads, just cause it is too crazy to really push a bike on the street.

The Yamaha YZF-R6 has been clocked at 157 bone stock. The new gen 600s tend to blur the line between 600 and 750. Nothing like a big bore though, don't really like the little buzzers. My SB8R has been tagged up around 170-175, though I have never come close to that. Pucker factor has limited me to around 155 give or take speedo error. But too many variables on the road keep the real fun limited to the track.

the "rocket" is a zx6r. top speed is 154. qtr as per magazines is in the 12's as stated. riding it so far the fastest i have gone is 135 cruising at 110 to 115 is the norm especially on long runs.
yes the bike was in 4th gear when it came up and yes the road had bumps.
i know someone is saying yeah right. well i have the driving record to prove the statements...ins sucks
and yes i agree that a well driven car will take a bike on tight twisties only because high speed slides stink on a bike unless of course your duhammel on a race circuit.
yes i've done a little sliding been riding bikes since i was 6 they never seem to go fast enough. wanted to go and try to get my license on the race circuit but the sweety finally put her foot down and said no after a friend of mine ejected at more then 120.

ok fellas: i checked the numbers in the mag again. not to rehash but i know there are folks on the board who will check and call me on it if i'm wrong.
the qtr was in 10.96@123mph. not too shabby for something that costs less then 10 grand, bone stock, and able to be driven daily. weather permitting of course.

hey bimota i see your from chi. ever go to the highland house.

MCN shows the ZX6R at 10.89 @ 125.04, top 156. Sorry I'm a numbers man. There really is no comparing cars to bikes. Apples to Oranges. Each one provides a different thrill. Bang for the buck, though, goes to bikes.

Terry, yeah I try to make it to the Highland House for the Sunday gathering. Seems I've been going there more each year. Last year I think I went more than past years combined.

maybe sometime this year we can hook up there. i definitely want to get there more this year. thanks for the numbers. you're right no comparison. the thrill of acc just seems more intensified when the wind tries to throw you off the vehicle.
