Disapointed with FTVB.

I installed an Used FTVB and 4x4 pan this weekend with new filter and 7 quarts of oil. Oil level looks good and shifts fine. And by fine I mean only marginally better than stock. I tried WOT, cruising and everything inbetween. The 1-2 shift isn't even what I'd call firm. Just for reference I'm comparing this to my FTVB in my 01 Supercrew 4R70W.

Could I have gotten a different "model"? I can't see I did anything wrong, there isn't any thing but a VB to install? Is there a way to verify that I have one of Greg's VB's?

Used? That could be the problem if you followed the install steps to the letter.

I went from the line mod valve to the FTVB and it was a night and day difference. If you're going from the stock VB to the FTVB, you should feel it even more. My L shifted so hard it would snap your neck back at just partial throttle on the 1 - 2.

You might want to ditch the used one and drop $225 on a new one (that's how much mine was in '03, anyway). Sucks to waste all that new fluid but might be worth it in the long run.

maybe someone took you for a sucker and sold you a stock one. Was gregg's signature one it ( i know he signs some). That was the biggest change to driving charateristics out of any mod i have done....something is wrong...but good think is gregg will replace it if it is shot.

I had to try 3 different units (directly from Factory Tech) before mine was right. The problems were always that it wouldn't do the 1-2 shift at WOT. The shifting once it was right was better than stock but not the greatest. I know DanSS's would put you in the seat, but mine wasn't like that.

Yes i know used was a gamble but it come down the line from some reputable local guys.

I didn't have the instructions but I did read the How to's and it seems very straight forward as compared to my 4r70W VB. That one had springs in the tranny that were changed also. The L's was only a valve body.

Yes it does have Gregg's signature on it. I was wonder if they were stamped or anything else. I was just curious if there was different levels. If not I may swap the stocker back in and get intouch with Gregg as I don't think this is right.

Get in touch with Gregg. His customer service to me was pretty awesome, and I didn't buy the original one from him, it was through a dealer. I read one time I think on this board that he said each one was basically a custom unit and may react differently in different trucks.

Shoot me an address to ship to, and I'll make you another with more 1-2 in it, and you can return trhat one. I don't care if you buy them used on E-bay or it comes with a used truck you bought, I'll make it right.

Just FYI,

Gregg did the same for me when I bought a used one (again...from the most reputable L guy in DFW) and it started acting "funny" after ~10k miles. He sent me a brand new one, I sent him the old one back.

Superb customer service!
