Best Way to Get my Old School Pulley off ??

Alright guys, heres the deal......Sat is my retune. By then I have to change my fuel filter, sparkplugs, nitrous jets, and lower pulley. The main problem being the Pulley. On my truck is the old school JDM style caged 2# lower. I've heard theres been alot of problems with removing these old school pullies so I figured I'll ask you guys what the best way to get it off. I have my 5#, the 3 allen head bolts for it, the 3 washers, the converter lock strap, and the hex head style key....I know I have to go clockwise but other than that what should I do to get this pulley off.

Also I have the stock upper, with no aux. idlers, whats the best choice for a belt to get ?? 67.5" ?

Thanks.

He aint kidding Josh

But who knows maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones ? unfortunately I dont think there's a such thing as luck when it comes to talking that set up off.
It's either buy a huge socket or use a pipe wrench it seems

I think he means the old old old original pulley. Think stock setup.

You have to remove the whole setup (pulley, cage, pulley spindle), so it may not be that bad. I thought the big problem was when you have to remove the pulley from the pulley spindle.

I dont know what ones on there....I know its a caged lower....and my truck is an 01......I have a copy of the JLP lower pulley installation instructions, that came with the pulley....those should be all I need to remove the whole thing no matter what kinda caged pulley is on the truck correct ??

be careful about ruining the attachment points

I would prepare a healthy breaker bar and a pipe on it and get a strong person to put some careful force on it --- BUT while you begin to apply forece get someone to put impact force on the hub to help break it loose
In other words smack it with a BFH while the breaker applies torque

Get ready to make it work first time

Uh yes I have some experience

You only get ONE chance. If you have your stock fan,
there isn't room for an impact. Doug's right about taking
a strain and whacking it. It's the only way, and if it doesn't
work get the Sawzall and do it this way ...

This is the piece you take off with a BIG PIPE WRENCH ...

This is the wascally wabbit that becomes "welded" in by torque
and mismatched metal hardnesses ...

And this is how you cut the shaft to expose the harmonic
bolt that gets it out and on the ground so you can really
wail on it and DRIVE it out with a drift punch against the cuts.

Good Luck ...

PS....the Torque converter lock down goes on the
drivers side to prevent breaking the tranny case.

oh geez......
I had the idea of using a 2 3/4" socket, on a 3/4" breaker bar. and using a floor jack to apply pressure while smacking it with a BFH....lol. I do have Efans in the truck now, so I might see if I can get in there with an Impact gun, just dont know if any of my friends have a 3/4" drive one for me to borrow. Thanks for the tips, hopefully I dont have to do that sawzall thing...that kinda scares the **** outta me.

Blown5Pnt4 - exactly which pulley spindle do you have?

The pulley that SVT_KY posted is the old style JDM pulley. There were 2 spindles that held that pulley on. The stock one which used a 14mm allen like this:

And the other one that sold with pulley's for a while:

Notice the difference in spindles. If memory serves, the one that most people had the problem with was the one SVT_KY posted.
