Get a can of PB Blaster and soak it good - try to get behind it and really let it have it. Wait at least 5 minutes to let the blaster do it's thing.

I've removed or helped remove 4 of those things so far - the Blaster makes it easy.

Also, get a breaker bar with a pipe and do it from the top - you have the e-fans so space should not be an issue.

Be sure to lock the torque converter down with the strap before you start.

Good luck......

hmm thanks for the suggestions. I'm gonna go to a shop tonight where the guy said he'd give me a hand with it. Hopefully we are successful in getting this thing off. Once I get that part off, what else do I need to do to get it ready for my 5# lower ? just remove the bracket ? Do I have to remove the nut in the center as well ??

Either way, the whole thing comes off to the harmonic balancer.
That's the mounting point for all the pulleys except the jdm caged
one which I believe still screws into those same threads.

All the "others" mount up with three hex heads into the balancer
center point.

When you said "I have an old style 2 pounder" I took your word for it.

What you have is revision II, but still not the latest. The latest is the
one you need to remove with the Big Freaking Socket and just buy
another pulley shaft for $100.00

Good Luck ...

o.k. so Im confused....what do I have to do to get this off and my new 5# on. Take the pipe wrench and use it and alot of leverage to take out the first spindle and pulley, and also take out the 3bolts that bolt on the cage....then what ? I know my 5# mounts with the 3 hex head style bolts of which I have.

Actually I believe that one was the first revision.

Stock they came with the spindle that used the 14mm allen. The stock pulley was screwed off the spindle, enabling the pulley/cage to be removed. Then the pulley was pulled off the cage. The cage was filed/lathed down to remove the nubs and then the new pulley was pressed back on. Then screwed back on.

Revision II was I believe the one you posted that took a normal socket. Every thread I read those where the ones that gave people the most problem.

Revision III I think it the one that takes the really large socket and the pulley's get bolted to that.

Since Blown5Pnt4 is going to the direct bolt on to the balancer, he can remove the pulley/cage/spindle all at once from the balancer. It shouldn't even have to be seperated.

Now if he had to screw the pulley off the spindle, then I think he'd be screwed because the old school pulley's was when they used red loctite on them instead of anti-seize.

Alright, well I'm back and I'm partially victorious. I got the cage off, and the pulley its self. The only bad thing is that the 2nd spindle is still attached and I couldnt get it to budge....got to the point I was getting mad and sweating like crazy so I called it a night. Now whats the best way to get this last peice off ?? Also I noticed, that my JLP pulley has a big enought hole in the center, to slip over that 2nd spindle and still be bolted directly to the balancer. Besides it just looking like ***, is there any reason not to do it this way ?? will it throw the balance off of the motor or something ?? please do advise on my options and tips for the last part.....Thanks.

this is the peice that I have to get off still..........my JLP pulley has a center section plenty big enough, to slip over that and still bolt on flush with the other 3bolts....can anyone tell me why I shouldnt do this ?? will it hurt the truck in any way ??? I'm gettin tired of fighting with this thing...

Did the spindle snap or strip?

PB blaster over night, then again in the morning, then again before you get a big pipe wrench on it.

Don't you just take the three bolts that are inside the HB
off and the thing falls out? I can't remember ... except that
you are now at "the hard part". Maybe someone else that
had that version can help.

The '02 and up changed the way those attach I think.

Did you try the pipe wrench on the remaining piece yet?

get a quality pipe wrench and do the torque and hammer thing

Or put some tiurque on it and a "flame wrench" to heat it up some

If you have efans it shouldnt get in the way but I wouldnt leave it.

SVTKY - I think the 99-2000 were the ones with the removable ring the others werent ....

I have this setup I can sell you ... LOL
