Angry AAD Cobra Hood Fit

Well... I got the phone call yesterday from the body shop that they needed me to come down and look at the fit "problem" with the American Auto Designs Cobra Hood I was having them install.

So I headed down there this morning and I have to say I was indeed a bit disappointed. When I ordered the hood I didn't really expect it to fit "perfect" but I figured, hey it is a truck and the fit wasn't that great anyway.

Well... there is about a 1/2 inch gap on each side and up at the top of the hood it is about 1/4 inch lower than the side panels! There is nothing that can be done with the 1/2 gap, but they are going to try and shim up the top to match the side panels.

I had not read of any problems on here with the fit of the hood. I don't think it would do any good to exchange it because like the guy said at the shop, they all come out of the same mold. Even so they had already painted the underside of it...

Ohhh well, I'm keeping the stock hood just in case.

The only adjustments I made to mine were on the latch (shims) and I had to lower the bump stops on the radiator support about 3 turns. Fit at the top of the hood was excellent and required very minimal adjustment (more shims).

I bought one of these hoods for my 99.This is back when the price was $595.I sold it to a friend when I bought my silverado. He put it on.The only modification was the gap on both sides of the front of the hood which is very easily fixed by loosning the top bolts of the fender and adjusting it. Sound like you need to find a better body man.Ive seen some horror stories with aftermarket hoods. These ones are probally the finest made.If you loosen the fenders they very easily slide in or out without affecting anything else

Send it back. The paint won't matter. They can't sell it to somebody else anyway.

Actually the gap runs the length of the hood on both sides... so if I move the fenders in to meet the hood, then the fenders won't be lined up with the doors :-)
