Question Questions for Sal

I noticed you will be offering a crank pulley in the future, and was wondering how the effects of this can be any different than that of the blower pulley. Will it not overspin the blower just the same? Correct me if I am wrong and please explain. Also, if possible give me a rough date on the release of your new products, I am eagerly waiting to order. One more thing, I saw some pictures of I think SVTWhiteLightning-Girls' truck and she had a PowerSurgePerformance sticker on the front windshield. Will this be be offered? Thanks!

Hey Caka, Sal here. I am working with ASP to make a lower crank pulley set up. At my request, this pulley is going to be a solid bolt on replacement pulley that will do away with the stock rubber hub mounted cage assembly. This pulley will increase performance within the range of safety toward the vehicle. It is also a convienience factor as well, as you can not change the accessory drive belt on the side of the road in an emergency with the stock cage set up. A month or so ago, I figured I'd give the snout pulley a try, just for R&D purposes. My results? I had to replace the snout of the blower, which was not cheap. Luckily I have a friend at Magnuson who was kind enough to get me a new snout. He informed me that he was not surprised at this, as the M112 is not like other Eatons where you can just pop a new pulley on and off. The pulley on the M112 is pressed on with a 5000lb press. And you can't even take the snout off and press it yourself, as there is a special tool that only Eaton and Magnuson have that supports the snout shaft to remove or install a pulley. When I contacted the pulley manufacturer I was told they never even tried one on the Lightning, they just assumed it worked because it worked on the other Eatons (which have keywayed pulleys). Doing the lower pulley is the proper way. If you do the upper pulley, you're asking for trouble. I'm sure the SHM fans will blame me for trying to bash SHM's pulley, but there's plenty of reading material on this matter here, just do a search. Very few have actually had success doing the pulley change, and the only reason for that is because some of the aftermarket pulleys are made slightly lager than proper Eaton specs. And the SHM fans can go ahead and use the pulley. If it works, that's great. But don't cry when you just ruined your blower trying to remove/install the new pulley.

Hello Sal
My under standing for the cage and bearring asmby. Is so the crankshaft has only a rotational load, and no side loading of the crank+bearings. From what I've heard(from a person I work with who worked at a ford dealer in late 80s to early 90s) ford had a problem with the SC Tbirds breaking lower hub and end of crank off. Due to side loading, and bearing wear. What is your take on the load that will be put on the crankshaft with out the bearing? I myself would like the idea, so if the belt does needed replaced. It could be done on the side of road. Would the pully be lighter than stock? Would help with rotational mass . Have you thought about doing a under drive pulley set, maybe with the blower pulley. One more power from boost, two more power from slower acssy.

Sal,

Glad you are going to have ASP make pullys the '99 & '00 Lightning since they are pretty close to me and several on the board(Houston, Pearland, League City etc). Generally if you showed up at their shop you could buy pullys cheaper.
