Post No dealers in this one please

To me, the Lightning is the best thing Ford has put out since the '68 Mustang (yeah, I loved that year).
All these Lightning owners getting together online to share what they got with others I think is great!
I've got the SHM Chip and Mass, looking into the exhaust, pulley and the fan kit (10-12 HP, um, really?) they developing, but besides these Mods, what else have the rest done that have made a difference to thier Lightning? I've surfed through here, could be here a year going through all the posts, majority seemed aimed at the above mods.
Thanks

I've seen alot of 3.73 & 4.10 gear mods and some NOS....there are some looking into new headers that are coming eventually and a single blade throttle body...

Hey Daniel, with the NOS, have their been anyone using a wet kit, or have they all been dry kits?
Guess it's probably to soon for someone to have developed a wet kit yet.
I've also been thinking back at a truck show I was at a while back, and seen a nose cone assembly with an air dam for ram air. Was that some custom job, or is there actually places out there that sell those kits and do they make a difference, or just all show?
Thanks

Hey Moses, (seems like an appropriate Sunday morning question)

What do you think of the SHM chip and MAF? They're only 1/2 an hour from me and wouldn't mind dealing with them.

You won't see a factory wet kit for this truck, as long as lawyers roam the earth. too much puddling in the intake. if you want one, there are many "generic" fuel injected kits out there. i've used a 100shot dry and it feels borderline dangerous

When I first got my lightning, it already had me by the seat of my pants, but after I put in the chip and mass air from SHM, I got one of those stupid grins on my face when I pulled outta my driveway.
Course had to punch it, after the tires stopped smoking, I could not stop laughing as I went flying through the gears. Each shift was really crisp, threw me right back in the seat.
Never done 1/4 miles or had it on a dyno, so can't tell ya what it gave me, but sure is a heck of alot of fun now.
I had it on the Ohio Turnpike, I noticed something different there though, when I'm doing about 60-70 mph, and I punch it, my acceleration is a heck of alot better than it was stock, had more of a lighter feeling to the peddle, and got alot of attention from this one Z28 guy that was whipping along past me, and a couple seconds later, I was blasting past him like he was standing still.
There was a sound difference I noticed as well, probably from the mass air, it's got more of a , hmm, roar.
I can also light up the tires while rolling at about 20-30 mph, couldn't when it was stock.
This may be the same as the rest of the chips and mass air, I don't know, cause I've only had SHM's.

Hey Moses, Sal here. You wrote:

You'd be surprised what taking off the stock fan can free up. Last year I told everyone that taking off the fan would free up power, when I took the motor out of my 99 and found that the fan weighs like 25-30 lbs. I do have a bolt it dual electric fan kit in the works coming soon. I won't comment on the other stuff as you don't want dealer input in this thread, just wanted to clear up your skeptisism on the fan.

I'd used Superchip before with SHM's mass air, got a performance increase but not alot til I got the SHM program. The combo gave me the same reaction as it did for you, and know that stupid grin your talking about that you just can't get off your face.
Only problem I have now is keeping the wife out of the truck. She's got the damn thing now more than I do driving her girlfriends around. Must give her a thrill, cause she does make up for it when she gets home.
I've noticed the "roar" as well. The motor was always loud when I put the peddle right down, but this is more of a muscle roar now, but I do know exactly what you are talking about. The mass air is actually the same size, just a different design from the stock, but did make a difference.

HA HA... I have the same problem with the lil lady. I had to comprimise though, I sold her car, so I have to decide whether to let her drive the stang or the lightning. She scares me when she drives the lightning though, she leaves quietly, but if I'm on the balcony after she leaves, I can hear and almost smell the burning rubber a couple blocks away.

You are right you would not want to squirt a wet nitrous/fuel shot anywhere but into the intake port on this intake manifold design. I posted photos of the intake and I have more at my web site. Anywhere else and you would have the makings of a ---- can you say --- bomb. Plus if you make a wet setup you will have some fun in fabrication. Look at the photos and for a few brave souls get the manifold and have at it.

Moses, do you have or are you going to try the Pulley from SHM? I've heard alot about it from other people that were good responces, but now that I've been in this board, I seen a message from one guy saying they could cause damage. there was a responce from SHM somewhere in here that said they never had any problems, but wouldn't mind one last opinion.

Hello Wild, I am getting the pulley. I phoned Sean Hyland's today, they haven't had one problem yet with the pulley from any of the customers. They've been running it on their lightning for quite a while. I'm getting the exhaust from them as well. The chip and mass I got performed awesome like they said it would, so I'm taking thier word that the rest of their products will as well.

Hey Moses,

Do you have a '99 or '00 Lightning. I ask because SHM has a '00 L as their tuner truck and I think we all agree that the computers from each year require considerably different chips.

Just a question.
