srt-8 loses to lightning
srt-8 and lightning
At the track last friday evening.
68 degrees. 5:45 pm
My lightning is close to stock. Predator program and single blade tb and C&L ported upper plenum.
srt-8 ......................................... 04 lightning
0-60 foot 1.906 ..............................1.993
330' 5.595 ................................5.646
1/8 8.706 @ 78.47 mph ..............8.662 @ 81.04
1/4 13.624@ 100.32 ..................13.523 @ 100.98
As you can see it was close.
I checked it out after seems to be a very nice truck

sounds right to me. although I don't know how this: Predator program and single blade tb and C&L ported upper plenum = close to stock. I would think of close to stock as maybe a CAI and thats about it, but thats subjective I guess.
I had an opportunity to run an “Inferno Red” Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 yesterday from a dead stop at a red light.
I saw the SRT8 up in front of me as we were coming though town. I was hoping to get closer, so I could take a look at it. As my luck would have it, traffic started merging off as were coming out of town and I was getting closer. He got caught at a red light.
I was in my 93 Turbo Lightning. I come rolling up to the light where he is already sitting. He glances over at me, looks around at my truck. I kind of tap the throttle a little to get the truck to jump forward showing him I wanted to run.
He smiled and gave me the thumbs up.
The light turned green and . . . Whoa !!! he leaps out of the line HARD.
By the time we get moving he already has put his Rear bumper even with my front bumper.
I am fighting for traction . . . the rear of my truck is swaying back and forth looking for some kind of asphalt to hook to.
Finally as my truck goes into second I feel the tires starting to bite. I slowly roll into the throttle a little harder and as my front bumper is even with his.
Then I feel that the tires have the traction necessary, I slam the throttle down to the carpet and the Turbo started laying down the power.
I pulled him hard after that . . . we ran to about 110 mph and I had him by at least 3 truck lengths maybe even 4.
After we slowed down and another mile or so, I eased into the turn lane to go home and he came by me with a big thumbs up and I returned the greeting. A really cool guy after a great race.

Ok, I see your point, but I consider that close to stock as there is no pully change for extra boost.
My objective is just to have it breath easier. That creates a little more torgue and better mileage.
a chip or predator program does wonders for a lightning though. That damn 1-2 factory shift with the power reduction and farting noise was awful on the lightning. The jeep has the same issues on the 1-2 shift along with some other things to "save" the trans/transfer case.
Was just saying that close to stock means many different things to different people.

hmm
any kind of decent tune, even the out of the box ones, are worth a couple tenths on a lightning.
Hate to say it but stock for stock, you probably would have lost.
Again though, how much does the GC cost vs the lightning???
Hard to beat the lightning, dollar for dollar, power for power, and how cheap they are to put in the 12's, or even 11's now.
Too bad they're gone!!!

cost =
brand new 01 lightning paid 28,800
brand new 06 GC SRT-8 paid 41,160
So yes I do agree dollar for dollar the lightning is the way to go. But as Don pointed out Ford left us all hanging and did away with SVT, so my money goes else where. screw you ford.
