P0705 and 1702 codes

My OD light is flashing when in drive, the 1/2 shift is harsh, and I'm getting 2 codes - P0705 and 1702.

I took it to the dealer and they checked out the Trans Range Sensor (code P0705 refers to this) and said it is working to spec. I've done a lot of searches on the forums and this is a rare problem for sure and no one listed their ultimate solution to it.

Anyone have any ideas?

P0705 is for the range selector malfunction. Cause : "Digital TR circuits, indicating an invalid pattern in TR_D. Condition caused by a short to ground or an open in TR4, TR2, and/or TR1 circuits." Symptom : "Increase in EPC pressure (harsh shifts). Defaults to (D) or D for all gear positions. In (D) position transmission stuck in D or manual 2. May flash MIL."

P1702 just trips if the P0705 is intermittant. Diag and symptoms are the same as for P0705.

You definitely have an intermittant wiring issue or bad MLPS.

Just wanted to add, that eventually, the OD light sometimes stops flashing and things seem normal. I have an appointment at another Ford dealer (this time a SVT dealer) next week for a 2nd go at checking things out. Is there anyway to really verify the wiring or sensor without pulling the trans?

The sensor is externally on the linkage on the outside of the trans. That code should have nothing to do with anything IN the transmisson.

Maybe I should just ask them to replace the sensor next Friday if they don't find anything else. It may read correct in the shop, but malfunctions with vibriation in real use..
