Opinions on painting a KB....

What's the common consensus on painting a KB? Good or bad? I've seen that a lot of people have done it and I've also heard from a few people that it causes the heat to be trapped which can adversely affect the intake temps and internal parts. What say you??...

I am in the process of purchasing a Whipple Kit from JDM to import into the UK

Fancied a polished version but was informed the black finished ones run cooler.
Something to do with heat transfer but maybe someone could chime in with the exact facts.

Yeah, I've heard that the polished superchargers hold the heat in for some reason...

Maybe get it anodized? Would that work?

I know people do that for car audio amps instead of paint for heat reasons

I've heard that polishing will really retain the heat.

I think the theory is, with polished you loose a lot of surface area for cooling effect. Closed pore theory? If you paint it, I would do real thin coats, or look into anodizing or powdercoating or something like that. I would think the effects would be minimal either way.

Not sure about the theory....but am sure you DO retain tiny bit more heat. When I dynoed after installing the polished KB...my IAT2 temps were not hot at all. So....to keep things in perspective....how much do you actually loose in speed...power....and all else? Who knows. I didn't loose anything.

Moreover...theoritcal science can prove that an elephant can hang suspended from a daisy.

Just a thought.
