Cool

I think Purolator makes Fords filters.

I just got off the phone with a ford tech friend of mine talking about the oil issue because it is time for my first change. Coming from a person who has seen the inside of these motors and the wear and tear, he recommends 10 w 40 valvoline on a 3,000 mile change routine, especially here in florida where it is so hot for so long. When asked about the synthetic, he said that if people stuck with the 3,000 to 4,000 mile routine then it was ok. But he was afraid that people were switching to synthetic solely to avoid having to change oil so frequently. And this he said was not good. Any comments on this recommendation?

Hello again,
So I've come to these conclusions, and I want to know it it's ok.

1: 6 Quarts
2: Mobile 1 Synthetic 5w30
3: Use Standard Ford Motorcraft Filter
4: Dealer will do the Oil Change.

What do you you fellas think about these above conclusions? Would you personally choose anything different for the first 2,500-3,000 Oil Change?

MB, thats the receipe i've been using. went to mobile1 5w @ 3000 miles, and change every 3000. only costs 20 bucks at wal-mart for 6qts and ford filter. i'm getting good at it, and will start timing myself, like the dad on "christmas story"

My two cents worth..... I agree, those orange Fram filters are a piece of junk. I stopped using them many years ago after opening one up. The Ford filter seems to be pretty well built, as is the Wix units. I like Mobil 1 synthetic, and use it for it's superior lubricating/power gain capability as well as it's increased thermal protection. (and not for it's extended lifespan) I also think that 5-30 oil is sufficient for just about anywhere in this country, especially if you are running a synthetic oil. Weights above 5-30 simply add resistance, and rob power.

Question

Hi again,
Will the dealer give me any trouble if I bring the Mobil 1 5w-30 with me, and give it to them to put in?

How much will the oil change cost if I bring my own, and have them do the work/motorcraft filter?

They also will be looking for the 4th coil plug coolant issue. I'll let them look at the intercooler, and coolant issue too. I'm going to also have the parts numbers matched to the "control arms upper, and lower" to confirm I have the right ones. If I do have the right one's, then I would not have the "clunk" right?

What should I do about that clunk if they say the "right" control arms are on the front end?

Question

Hi noelvm,
Should I just do the oil change myself? I know how to do it, and if it's gonna be a waste of money for them to do the work, then forget about it. I'm already tight on money as it is.

Please suggest a few filter manufactures for me, and also I will need the size. I'll go to Autozone, and get it.

I am starting to lean towards doing the work myself. *sigh*. Damn financial issues.

Cool

You can buy Motorcraft(Purolator) filters at about any auto parts store or Kmart/Walmart.

Make sure they retorque the swingarms and tackweld the washer/put star washer if the drivers side lower swingarm has been moving. Check photos in this post to see movement:

Also tell them to grease the steering stops.

Well I crawled under my truck today to see the filter type and either my truck is to low or my head too big (I think the later).

All I can say is that it's yellow and possibly a Penzoil, is this a good filter?

I'm lucky enough that I don't give a ***** about monies, so what is the absolutely best filter to buy.

dura blend is 1/2 regular oil and 1/2 synthetic. What a joke. Don't waste your money on it.

I've been doing all my oil changes myself but I have found someone who I trust to do it so now I'm taking it to him. Ever since some tork tool harry, cross threaded the pan nut on my 83 bronco and I had to change the pan. (what a job). I haven't let anyone mess with my vehicles.....But Bumberas is doing mine and I stand right there under the truck and watch.
