Building motor question

Well i kinda hit a problem. i live in San Antonio and every machine shop that i have friends at or know the owner is trying shaft me hard just for rods and pistons the hole nine . They all tell me that parts are alot of money because the is no high demand for them. one of the told me for a set of JE pistons are $701 dollers and the Rods would be $650. WTF i asked and say are the mad out if dimond. So i have been calling around to like dss for pistons modmax MMR jdm jlp everyone to see where i can get a good price with out feeling it later. The best place i came up with is Modmax. They got eagle forged steel H-beam rods and ARP 2000 rod bolts for $469 and 18 cc dish pitons for $544. Thats the best i found so far. All the machine work is nothing it is free for me but man are parts that pircee. Also is what i am talking about worth a cap or is it all junk. I mean come on it is a pain to pull the motor out and my mind set is if ur gonna do it, do it once do it right and never do it again. So any help would be graetful?????

In my opinion buy a kit from the tuner of your choice, you'll know the package will work together, it's been tested on someone elses dime and it eliminates some of the possible problems.

If I had a friend at a machine shop that was willing to do the work for me, I would try to buy my parts from him too! If I worked at a machine shop, and was willing to do the work for free for a friend, and he didn't like my prices (If he's afriend, I'm sure he gave you HIS best price) I would tell him to go push a rope! Parts for these trucks AREN"T cheap. And its not like a mustang where you can buy rods that are a little better than stock...the parts that they do offer handle HUGE horsepower. Try pricing parts for a 5.0 that will handle 1000hp!

i feel you on the money part... i had a bad head gasket/lifted head... i figured might as well rebuild it after 115k hard miles.... started buying the rods, pistons and small things and then lost my job... went ahead and pulled the motor anyway since i had time to kill since i didnt have a job for 5months..

I just now got a job 5 months ago, just now got the motor finished and back in and bolting it all back up...

I got lucky tho got a good state job and mom works at the district i do so i car pool with her.... its been tuff

Quality parts simply cost money.

You have to consider the power level and compression ratio in a S/C motor. If you want to push it? You gotta go forged... period. And forgings require an expensive tool.

Bottom Line = Mods cost $$$$$$$$$$

your average built short block will cost you $4-$7k probably
Longblock soup to nuts anywhere from $10k- $25k with the new aluminum blocks

Damn, Anyone know how to get burger juice out of your keyboard!

not to be a *****, but if you can't afford to pay, or fix it if it breaks, you shouldn't mod it....
