Building motor question
Building motor question
Well i kinda hit a problem. i live in San Antonio and every machine shop that i have friends at or know the owner is trying shaft me hard just for rods and pistons the hole nine
. They all tell me that parts are alot of money because the is no high demand for them. one of the told me for a set of JE pistons are $701 dollers and the Rods would be $650. WTF i asked and say are the mad out if dimond. So i have been calling around to like dss for pistons modmax MMR jdm jlp everyone to see where i can get a good price with out feeling it later. The best place i came up with is Modmax. They got eagle forged steel H-beam rods and ARP 2000 rod bolts for $469 and 18 cc dish pitons for $544. Thats the best i found so far. All the machine work is nothing it is free for me but man are parts that pircee. Also is what i am talking about worth a cap or is it all junk. I mean come on it is a pain to pull the motor out and my mind set is if ur gonna do it, do it once do it right and never do it again. So any help would be graetful?????

In my opinion buy a kit from the tuner of your choice, you'll know the package will work together, it's been tested on someone elses dime and it eliminates some of the possible problems.
If I had a friend at a machine shop that was willing to do the work for me, I would try to buy my parts from him too! If I worked at a machine shop, and was willing to do the work for free for a friend, and he didn't like my prices (If he's afriend, I'm sure he gave you HIS best price) I would tell him to go push a rope! Parts for these trucks AREN"T cheap. And its not like a mustang where you can buy rods that are a little better than stock...the parts that they do offer handle HUGE horsepower. Try pricing parts for a 5.0 that will handle 1000hp!

Quality parts simply cost money.
You have to consider the power level and compression ratio in a S/C motor. If you want to push it? You gotta go forged... period. And forgings require an expensive tool.

Well i think i found the awnser to my problem. I called propower and the will give me Eagle forged H-beam rods with arp 2000 rod bolts-J/E 18 cc dish pistons, plasma moly rings and rod and main bearings, for just 999.95 pluse shipping so i think that is pretty good deal
Bottom Line = Mods cost $$$$$$$$$$
your average built short block will cost you $4-$7k probably
Longblock soup to nuts anywhere from $10k- $25k with the new aluminum blocks
Damn, Anyone know how to get burger juice out of your keyboard!
