Analyze my 1/8 mile L guys... please :-)
Hey guys. I'm not an L owner, but I figure you guys are more "performance" oriented, and could analyze my times a bit. I ran last night for my very first time ever, on an 1/8 track. It was tons of fun.... and I've got some definite reaction time problems... but I'm working on them. I just wanted to know if you guys could tell IF the truck has potential? My list of mods is below in my sig. The big killer, I believe, is my 3.08 gears (which probably account for the horrible 60 ft. times).... which I plan on changing to 3.73s.
I was 1-2 shifting the truck, and running in 1st for most of the 1/8th. My best ET follows:
ET 1/8 Mile: 10.8987
Reaction Time: 0.9547
60 ft. Time: 2.4137
330 ft. Time: 7.0624
Speed (MPH): 63.9235

Just having the 302 leaves pleanty of potential. The trick is spending your money effectively. Gears are good, and remember airflow is everything. Cam and heads would do wonders, and changing to a 5.8 wouldn't hurt either.
Get these cylinder heads for your 302. Onlu $15,000.

Do you guys feel 3.73s will offer a significant improvement? This will be a daily driver, and I want to keep some mileage. Are 4.10s to much for highway cruising?

I've gone to 3.73s (from 3.55 stock). Some of the guys are using 4.10s. The tire size also figures into the overall driveline ratio.
Example: If I run stock F-1 tires, I get a 3.73 ratio. If I run 16" drag radials or MT Streets (smaller diameter), I get an equivalent ~4.12 ratio.
I like the 3.73 ratio on the street, but I could get away with running 4.10s because I don't do a lot of highway cruising. The reason I chose not to go with the 4.10s is by the time I put drag tires on, the driveline ratio is pushing 4.50 plus (which I personally feel is too much for the 1/4).
Changing the gears will definately help, but don't expect miracles. My guess would be maybe .2 in the 1/8.
