Does an L FEEL fast?
I know they ARE fast, but how fast do they FEEL? I mean subjective, push-you-back-in-your-seat and hold-you-there fast...
The L's torque numbers approach Viper spec's - which FEELs incredible!
Thanks...

I'd have to say it feels faster than my Cobra, even though it isn't.

Hmmmm..... what is "Fast"
Kinda like.... How long is a peice of string?
I would say in the big picture the Lightning is not under powered at all. But "Fast" ????? Any 13 second car is gonna be fun to drive... but "Fast" I'd say "Peppy" might be a better word.
I've driven several Vipers and I don't no the numbers to compare.... but the Vipers hit allot harder. The manual trans has allot to do with that. I think you could say that the Lightning is "Fast" for the money.... seems like allot of motor, trans and brakes for 30k
I don't wanna ruin your "Dream" but if you think it's something it's not.... than your gonna be dissapointed when you drive one...that would be a shame....

I've had my 00 for about a month now. It drives really "nice". It has smooth power. But 'fast' is a relative term. Fast compared to what? My '96 cobra was faster. Don't forget it's a heavy truck and it has an automatic. It pushes you back in the seat for sure, but it's not like you're pinned there. I had a 1995 Impalla SS and my friends said that it was really FAST. I didn't think so. It ran a 15.3 quarter. A new Maxima 5speed runs a 15 quarter.
The only thing I can say is that I love my truck and look forward to many mods.. By the way, what are you used to driving in? What is fast for you? Then I can compare the L to what You think is fast.

Ya CA,
Peppy....
Just don't want to give the dreamer a false sense of reality. If you were to read all the posts on this board you could get performance confused with enthusiasm. The terms that have been thrown around in here could relate to flying a jet!!! Terms like "scalded ape"...."My L leaves so hard, makes my gums bleed"
Maybe I got caught up on all the hype about Blowers and such and was a little dissapointed when I got mine....
Don't get me wrong.... I love these trucks!!!
CA... you have been down the track a few times now.... 13 seconds can feel like a long time..... do you catch yourself thinking about random things during a run???
Your probably ready for a 11 second car now!!!!

I would have to say the L feels fast and is in deed fast if you compare it to all the other new cars available today. Add a chip and filter and it will run real close to a new 911 or a new Corvette in the 1/4 mile. I would consider both of those as fast cars. Its not as fast as a Viper or most Ferraries but then again how many of those are there anyway and they cost a whole lot more, not a fair comparison. In my opinion the bang for the buck ratio is real high with these trucks. Buy one you will like it!

To be honest, I didn't think my L felt as fast as I thought it would. I have driven my brothers Impala SS, and my mother's 1976 Corvette with a 350 engine, and both cars felt faster. I think some of it had to do with their louder exhaust. I still have the stock exhaust on my L, and it could be louder. Also, with the cars you sit closer to the ground, so that feels faster. I've had my L to the track, so I know its faster than an Impala SS. Once I put a louder exhaust on, I'm sure it will fell as fast as it really is.

Hey Dreamin, Sal here. I think I know what you are talking about. When I first picked up my 99 and drove it for the first time, I was like "what a slow POS, it can't even break the tires loose". It didn't SEEM to have the power that all the tests and shows indicated. But after the first trip to the track at 300 miles, I had a different view as it was turing 13.8s and 13.9s all day. There are two reasons to this "feel". One is that the blower has such a linear power curve, that you don't "feel" any power come on; it's there from go. On my 17psi ATI Dominator 95 Lightning, there wasn't much until about 2000 rpm, then it was HOLD ON. But not like that with the new trucks. The second reason for that "feel" is that the factory calibration pulls over 20 degrees of timing out on tip in at WOT. Our chip (or most other brands) don't pull that much timing out, which results in much more off the line power as anyone here with a chip can attest. Hope this helps!!

Thanks everyone for the info... and for setting my expectations...
I have owned mostly turbo cars (and modified them of course): RX7-13.0 @ 110, 300ZX-12.6 @ 114, Typhoon-14.0). While this is a wide range of ET's... when that turbo kicks in, these cars REALLY push you back in your seat.
Sal, your comments are right on... I think it is the rapid increase in torque that I am feeling. Sounds like the L isn't going to push me back quite as much...
but I'm still getting one!

This is all B.S. stand on it from 65 and look down at the speedo, or hell look ahead.
Nobody last night could even come close, no merqs, no stangs, no one, yes they would catch up (when I let up) but I would nail it again. I like the top end with my elbow sticking out the window, how many people will push you to 140+
You will get a lot of respect, or at least their @unts respect!
If you stand on it for 30 seconds you'll see a smile in you rear view mirrow, beleive you me!

I'd have to disagree with those who feel it dosn't "feel fast."
I think my 2000L feels damn fast...I've been in friends Turbos (RX7, 3000GT-VR4, Stealth R/T, Audi TT) and I must say that our trucks feel fast as well.
It was funny when my girlfirend went to change the radio one time as I gunned it getting onto the highway...until I letup, she couldn't reach the button... Gotta love them G's.
I'm still stock as well.
